All applicants will be given three (3) pre-paid envelopes, two of which are blank official envelopes and should be self-addressed by applicants.

All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) application reference number  (b) full name (c) postal address (d) first choice programme and (e) application category which should be one of the following: SSSCE/WASSCE or Post-Diploma.

Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure very carefully before completion of the online application form.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

3.0       FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

3.1       DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

Low to middle level management staff in Ghana’s growing hospitality and tourism industry who need opportunities to enhance their skills and climb the academic ladder to enhance their careers.

DURATION:  8 weeks

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate in Tourism/Hospitality/Business or related field plus three years working experience in a recognized tourism/hospitality faculty.

3.2       DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND REGIONAL PLANNING

DIPLOMA IN TRANSPORT AND ROAD SAFETY MANAGEMENT

TARGET GROUPS

The programme targets drivers in governmental and non-governmental institutions/organizations, transport unions such as the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Kingdom Transport, Metro Mass Transport Services (MMTS), Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Car Rentals as well as educational Institutions in the country.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

The programme is available to people with certificates in basic road safety or fleet management from Road Safety Transportation Consultancies (RSTC) Limited or similar training institutions.

3.3       DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates applying for admission into the programme should have any of the following:

  • Certificate in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management from the University of Cape Coast.
  • Aggregate 24 or better in SSSCE/WASSCE with passes in English and Mathematics
  • GCE ‘A’ level passes in two subjects and ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.
  • GCE ‘O’ level passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics
  • Teacher’s Cert. ‘A’ with ‘O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics
  • Stenographer Grade Two Certificate.

All candidates will have to pass a selection interview.

TARGET GROUP

This course is open to all who are interested and who have any of the above qualifications.  We would however wish to encourage workers in the protection agencies – the Police Service, Prison Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Services, Fire Service, Immigration and National Disaster Management Organisation, Teachers and NGOs to apply.

DURATION
Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting eight (8) weeks each.  The First Semester begins in June, 2012.

B.A. (SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND CONFLICT MAMAGEMENT)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates applying for admission into the programme should have any of the following requirements:

  • Diploma in Social Behaviour and Conflict Management, UCC.
  • Related Diploma Certificate, such as:
  • Diploma in Labour Studies – IDS, UCC.
  • Diploma in Labour Studies – GIMPA, Legon.
  • Diploma in Social Work – UG, Legon

All candidates should have obtained at least a pass at the Diploma Level. All candidates will have to pass a selection interview.

DURATION

Three (3) long vacation semesters lasting 8 weeks each.  The first Semester begins in June, 2012.

4.1       DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE EDUCATION

B. ED. (HEALTH SCIENCES)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must possess GCE ‘O’ Level certificate with passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and General Science. Passes at the GCE ‘A’ Level will be an advantage.

OR

  • SSSCE/WASSCE certificate with good passes in five subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science.

In addition to (i) or (ii) above, candidates must possess a THREE (3) YEAR DIPLOMA awarded by an accredited Health Training Institution with at least THREE (3) YEARS working experience (excluding “rotation” for nurses) in relevant areas such as General Nursing, Environmental Health, Disease Control, Community Health, Midwifery, Nutrition or Psychiatry.

4.2       DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION
                                               
CERTIFICATE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

TARGET GROUP

  • Teachers and attendants who work in pre-school and in Early Childhood Programmes (Day Care Centres, Nursery Schools and Kindergartens).
  • Teachers in Primary Schools who are interested in specializing in Early Childhood Education.
  • Staff of institutions related to child care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be teaching/working in a pre-school or Primary School
  • Applicants must have sat either SSSCE or WASSSCE or an equivalent examination or must be at least 25 years old.
  • Applicants must pass an entrance examination and an interview conducted by the Department.

DURATION

The programme is by sandwich and will cover two long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

Date of Examination: Thursday, 4th April, 2013 to be followed by interview on the same day.

Fees:    Fresh Students – Nine Hundred and fifty Ghana cedis (GH¢950.00) 
            Continuing Students – Seven Hundred and Sixty Ghana cedis (GH¢760.00)

            DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

TARGET GROUP

    • Untrained early childhood teachers
    • Teachers in Basic Schools interested in early childhood education
    • Staff of NGOs working in child care institutions
    • Staff of Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Direct Entry
  • Post-Senior High School Candidates with passes in 6 subjects. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English language, Mathematics and either Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three elective subjects with a minimum aggregate of 24 for SSSCE and 36 for WASSCE. 
  • Applicants with Teachers Certificate ‘A’ or Certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions with a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Entry through Exams and Interview

  • Mature candidates

Applicants must be 25 years and above and must have written SSSCE, WASSCE, ‘O’ Level or an equivalent examination with at least two passes.

  • Applicants with certificate in Early Childhood Education from recognised institutions with GPA below 2.5.

Note:  Candidates in category ‘b’ will be required to pass a selection examination and   interview on Thursday, 11th April 2013

DURATION
The programme is by sandwich and will cover three long vacation periods of eight (8) weeks each (June – July)

Applicants should possess a good HND - preferably first, second class (upper or lower) division or its equivalent from a recognized Polytechnic or Institution in Engineering

DURATION
Four (4) long vacation periods (8 weeks each).

B.Sc. (WATER & SANITATION)
TARGET GROUP

The main target groups are:

  • Environmental Health Staff in the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).  
  • Polytechnic graduates with relevant engineering background.
  • Professionals in other water and sanitation sector organisations with relevant entry requirement and work experience. 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Prospective candidates are expected to possess at least one of the following qualifications and pass an admission interview:

  • Diploma in Water and Sanitation from the University of Cape Coast or its equivalent from any recognized University.
  • Diploma in Environmental Health or Environmental Health Technology from Accra School of Hygiene and any recognized University.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

DURATION

Four (4) Sandwich Semesters, (8 weeks each) followed by supervised field work during vacation.

Second Semester: December 16th, 2013-January 10th, 2014 (4 weeks) followed by supervised industrial attachment.

The programme is available to holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) Accountancy or its equivalent, who obtained Second Class Division or better.

Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.

  • A certified academic transcript showing semester by semester GPA and FCGPA.
  • A certified copy each of NAPTEX certificate and results slip.

DURATION

The programme is run over four (4) Sandwich Semesters

FEES:
Admission will be on fee-paying basis. The fee for the 2012/2013 Sandwich Semester (June 3-July 26, 2013) are as follows:

  • Fresh Students: One thousand two hundred and eighty Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,280.00).
  • Continuing Students: One thousand and eighty Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,080.00).

6.2      DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES

  • Higher National Diploma in Marketing, Accountancy, Purchasing and Supply, Secretaryship and Management Studies as well as other business related areas from any recognized tertiary institution.
  • Any other Diploma from any recognized tertiary institution or professional body MAY be considered.

Applicants should ensure that the following documents are submitted together with the application forms.

7.0   ACCOMMODATION

The sandwich programmes are residential, and students outside Cape Coast will be responsible for securing their own accommodation on campus.  There are variety of options in the halls of residence to choose from.

7.1   COMPLETION OF APPLICATION FORMS

Applicants are advised to read, very carefully, instructions on the admission forms before completion.  Three (3) pre-paid EMS envelopes, two (2) of which are blank quarto-size envelopes will be provided and should be self-addressed by applicants.

Applicants are required to give the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) Full name (b) Postal Address (c) Programme.

7.2  SUBMISSION OF COPIES COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION FORMS

  • All completed application forms should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand
  • All completed Application Forms should reach THE DEPUTY REGISTRAR, DIVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST by Thursday, February 28, 2013.

No additional documents will be accepted after submission of application forms
