The Centre for African and International Studies (CAIS) came into being in the 2014/2015 academic year as a corollary to the need to contextualize African Studies within the global world, bearing in mind that the relations between Africa and other regions of the world will continue to be crucial in the future; while at the same time, ensuring that particularly critical aspects of Ghana/Africa’s indigenous cultural traditions, history and literature are continually being researched, documented and preserved. The aim is to focus on those broad questions which seek to explore the relevance of Africa in the context of the contemporary world. The centre continued to run two programmes – the university-wide general African Studies courses and a B. A. degree in African Studies.
