New demands on the job market for products of this department in the fields of teaching, communication media etc. and the department’s goal to produce graduates that are capable of communicating at the highest level of knowledge in the Ghanaian language and culture, called for the present review of the B.A. ARTS degree programme.
The review therefore focuses on the reorganisation of the programme to cover all areas of its studies, namely Language Structure, Language Usage, Cultural Studies in order to make them more relevant to the Ghanaian and African student.
The fundamental goal of the Department is to be a Centre of Excellence in research, study, usage and teaching of as many Ghanaian Languages as possible, especially those that the Republic of Ghana has approved for formal education.
The programme is designed to help students to:
- acquire the knowledge attainable at the BA Arts level
- use the language they studied in expressing knowledge at any level of communication.
- be aware of their Ghanaian roots and African heritage and values.
