The Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology Programme in line with the vision of the University, and is preparing to introduce MPhil and PhD Programmes in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in the near future.
We aim “To be uniquely positioned to explore the frontiers of Molecular Biology and Modern Biotechnology”. The Department organizes training workshops, and provides advisory and consultancy services to professionals, policy makers and researchers and is endowed with highly trained academics who are specialists in their fields. Technologists, Research Assistants and Administrators also support the Department. Ultimately, the core objective of the department is to train students who are able to:
- promote quality research in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
- apply Molecular Biology and Biotechnology techniques to agricultural practices to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods.
- advise policy makers, stakeholders and the general populace on issues pertaining to Agriculture, Health, and the Environment.
- establish strong collaboration with both local and foreign institutions through research and exchange programmes to facilitate transfer of technology.
