Deputy Registrar, Mr. Joseph C. Sefenu of the School of Graduate Studies Receives Distinguished Administrator Award (Senior Member Category)
















The Deputy Registrar of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Mr. Joseph Cudjoe Sefenu, has received the first ever University of Cape Coast prestigious Award for Distinguished Senior Member Administrator at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 27th September, 2016. The award was presented by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, in recognition of Mr. Sefenu’s meritorious contribution to the University of Cape Coast,

To be a successful administrator demands many outstanding qualities. Mr. Sefenu has never been afraid to break new ground, and has demonstrated strong leadership in public administration. Starting as a National Service Personnel in September, 1985 with the University as the first graduate secretary of the University Health Services, he rose through the ranks from Senior Administrative Assistant in 1987 to his current position as Deputy Registrar. He worked in almost all the sections of the Registrar’s Department; Human Resource, Academic, Publications, Student Affairs, and other parts of the University with professionalism and humility – traits that are becoming rare in the public service.  For over 30 years, he has demonstrated continuing learning, hard work, progression and commitment to the University of Cape Coast.  

Mr. Sefenu’s work with the SGS greatly distinguishes him in many ways.  As Deputy Registrar and head of administration, he has served the Board of the SGS, and other University statutory and ad-hoc committees (e.g. as member of the UCC Statutes Review Committee and as chairman of the committee for restructuring the Registrar’s Offices) with great commitment and excellence. He has contributed immensely to the compilation and publications of several documents of the SGS. Notable among these are the Academic policies and regulation for graduate studies (2011-2015 and 2016-2020) and Guideline for presenting thesis, dissertation and project work (2016). Epitomizing the organizational memory of the SGS and without any equivocation, Mr. Sefenu has ably assisted in the implementation of SGS policies, and is also noted for preparation of draft speeches for authorities in the University.  

In many ways, Mr. Sefenu has shared his professional experiences with the University’s internal and external community through: teaching of some graduate and undergraduate courses; supervision of students’ research; presentations at seminars; mentoring of his junior colleagues: and publication of training manuals.  In all these, his active, creative and integrative efforts have brought the best possible results in sections of the University where he has provided administrative leadership.

The School of Graduate Studies joins the entire University to congratulate him for the achievement.
