UCC Retains GUSA Title

The University of Cape Coast, (UCC) has emerged as the overall winner of the 23rd Edition of the Ghana Universities Sports Association GUSA games with a total of 71 medals.

The University hosted the competition and secured the coveted title with 32 gold, 31 silver and bronze. The University of Ghana placed second with 20 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze whilst the University of Education, Winneba secured the third position with 8 Gold, 7 Silver and 27 Bronze. Other Universities that competed in the GUSA games were University of Education, Winneba; University of Development Studies, Tamale; University of Professional Studies and the University Of Mines And Technology.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the President of GUSA, Dr. Joseph Ogah disclosed that the association had developed a strategic document with a number of set targets and activities. He noted that one of the targets of the strategic plan was to mainstream physically challenged sports in the subsequent GUSA games. 

In his remarks at the function, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by Prof. L. K. Owusu commended GUSA for the successful organisation of the games. He also congratulated the sports men and women for the sterling performance and admonished them to “Take advantage of the opportunity GUSA has offered you to showcase your talent to the world.”

The next Edition of GUSA Games will be hosted by the University Of Education, Winneba in 2016.
It would be recalled that UCC won the 22nd Edition of GUSA held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
