UCC Signs MoU with Two Colleges of Education

The University of Cape Coast, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two colleges of education. The Colleges are Mampong Technical College of Education and Bia Lamplighter College of Education, Debiso. The MoU and Affiliation agreement affirm the transition of the CoE to tertiary status in accordance with the Colleges of Education Act 2012, Act 847, which require each College to be affiliated to a University. With the signing of these two documents, UCC would mentor them to carry out their mandate of training competent teachers for the basic schools. The Act also provides that the development of academic policies, regulation of courses, development of academic standards, the conduct of examinations and award of diplomas should be undertaken in consultation with an affiliated institution. Currently the University of Cape Coast through the Institute of Education is mentoring all the Colleges of Education in the country. Signing the MoU on behalf of UCC, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, said the University was committed to working with the two Colleges to achieve academic excellence. To this end, he said, the University and the two Colleges had responsibilities to fulfil under the MoU to achieve the purpose of the agreement. Rev. Nyuieko Avotri, the Principal of the Mampong College of Education, signed for the College, while Mr. Ebo Kwobblah, appended for Bia Lamplighter College of Education. In a speech read on behalf of the two colleges, the Principal of the Mampong Technical College of Education, Rev. Nyuieko Avotri, expressed appreciation to the University and the Institute of Education for the continuous support.He promised that the two colleges would abide by the contents of the MoU. Present at the signing ceremony were the Registrar, Mr. John Kofi Nyan; the Director, Institute of Education, UCC, Prof. Stephen Ocansey and Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. David Larbi.
