Appointment of Vice Chancellor

The Council of the University of Cape Coast invites applications from qualified and competent persons for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the University which became vacant on 24th September, 2025.

The University

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) was established in October, 1962, primarily to serve as a leader in teacher education in Ghana.

It was elevated to the status of a full and independent University by an Act of Parliament in 1971 (Act 390) and is currently governed by the University of Cape Coast Law, 1992 (PNDC Law 278). Since its founding, the university has expanded its mandate beyond training professional teachers.

It now offers a broad range of liberal, professional, and research-intensive programmes designed to meet contemporary national and global needs.

The University of Cape Coast currently has a staff strength of about 4,500 and an estimated student population of 91,383 comprising Regular, Sandwich and Distance Learning students.

The Position/Functions

The Vice-Chancellor, under the direction of the University Council, is the Academic and Administrative Head as well as Chief Disciplinary Officer of the University.

He/She is also responsible to the University Council for maintaining and promoting good order and efficiency of the University.

His/Her other functions are prescribed by the Statutes of the University.

Qualification and Experience

The Vice-Chancellor who is the Chief Executive of the University must:

  • Be a Professor who is an internationally acclaimed scholar.

  • Be an individual of stature and integrity with exemplary leadership skills.

  • Have capacity to marshal resources needed to carry out the University's mission and vision.

  • Must be able to serve a full four year term of office before attaining the compulsory retiring age of sixty (60).

  • Be a mature individual with a proven capacity to provide evidence of possessing the following qualities:

    1. Demonstrate capacity to manage a University.

    2. Must be visionary, business-oriented and able to establish rapport between industry and the University for a common purpose.

    3. Ability to foster and promote good internal and external relations of the University;

    4. Ability to effectively project the image of the University internally and externally; and

    5. Proven capacity to provide strong visionary leadership and innovation for the University.

Tenure of Office

The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for an initial term of four (4) years.

The appointment may be renewed for a further term of up to three (3) years if that is not beyond the statutory retiring age of sixty (60).

Condition of Service

Very attractive. Terms and conditions of service will be specified in the instrument of appointment.

  1. Six (6) copies of their application package including Curriculum Vitae, Vision Statement, Certificates and any other relevant documents.

  2. A Statement of Vision for the University of Cape Coast, including strategies for achieving the Vision, in not more than five (5) pages of A4 size, typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing, and with 2.54 cm margins on all sides.
