School of Economics holds Maiden Dean's Awards

The School of Economics has held its maiden Dean’s Award ceremony dedicated to the celebration of students who obtained a Cumulative CGPA of 3.6 and above at levels 200 to 400.

The programme was aimed at celebrating the academic achievements of students for the 2023/24 academic year. Nineteen (19) level 200 students, 11 level 300, and 8 level 400 students were honoured at the event. 

The Chairperson of the event, Prof. Kwame Osei Kwarteng, Provost for the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, commended the awardees and the dedicated faculty for their role in nurturing these high-achieving students.

In his address, Prof. Kwarteng encouraged the students to continue learning from their lecturers, leveraging opportunities, and engaging in research to make a meaningful impact on the society they serve.

"If you want to add value to your achievement, be focused and determined," he advised the awardees.

In a statement by the Dean of the School of Economics, Prof. James Attah Peprah, he expressed his delight at the Dean's Award ceremony becoming a vital part of the school's academic calendar. He noted that the list of awardees will be permanently stored in the school's electronic database, enabling ongoing monitoring and follow-up on the students' academic progress.

The guest speaker, Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, Head of the Ghana Statistical Service, delivered an insightful address on the importance of universities operationalising their mandate for national development. He emphasized the need for data and statistics stewardship, as well as rethinking the lifetime careers on the university campus. 

Additionally, he highlighted the significance of coordinating with the government and development partners to complement the school's teaching, research, and outreach efforts.

Prof. Annim also encouraged the students to manage their time judiciously and imbibe the spirit of volunteerism, urging them to participate in national development through voluntary activities. 

Special awards were presented to two students; Monica Opoku Dwamena and Prince Opoku, who had emerged as the overall best students in CMAP AERC and CPP AERC in 2021 and 2024 respectively.
