Prudential Bank Limited has presented 6 Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy instruments valued at GH ¢ 210, 000 to the Department of Optometry at a short ceremony on campus.
The Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy which is used to examine the anterior and posterior part of the eyes would facilitate teaching, learning, research and extension services of the Department.
The Head, Department of Optometry, Dr. Emmanuel Kwasi Abu, said the Department was in dire need of the equipment considering the increase in the number of students over years. In addition, he noted that Department’s Eye Clinic has been taking care of over 200 a week hence, it was critical to get the equipment to support both academic and clinicals. “We sent proposals to different organisations and financial institutions but it is only Prudential Bank Limited that responded positively to our request” he explained.
Presenting the equipment, the Cape Coast Branch Manager of Prudential Bank, Mr. Eric Sarpong Appau, noted that the Bank has a cordial working relationship with the University. He noted that the donation was their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to enhance academic work as well as delivery of eye care in the Department’s Clinic. He promised that the Bank would continue to support the Department and the University to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions.
On behalf of the Department, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, thanked the Bank for the Donation. He commended Prudential Bank Limited for their continuous support to the University. “Prudential Bank has been a good partner to the University and they have helped the University in many ways” he noted. Prof. Ampiah called on other organisations and financial institutions to emulate the example of Prudential Bank Limited.
Present at the function were the Registrar, Mr. Kofi Nyan and lecturers in the Department. Other staff of Prudential Bank Limited who were in attendance were Mr. Benjamin Darko (UCC Branch Manager); Mr. Joseph Hanson from the Head Office and Mr. Samuel Otabil (Head of Marketing, Cape Coast Branch).
