The second edition of the J-Term jointly run by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, University of Cape Coast and the Coastal Resources Center, University of Rhode Island is expected to take place in July 2019. This 3-week exchange programme seeks to enhance the academic knowledge of participating undergraduate students in global fisheries, coastal environment and resource management issues whilst deepening their appreciation of a multi-disciplinary approach and cross-cultural perspective to addressing these challenges. A maximum number of ten (10) Levels 200 and 300 undergraduate students from the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (CANS) will be selected to benefit from this programme. Participation will be partly funded by the USAID/UCC Fisheries and Coastal Management Capacity Building Support Project and the Sustainable Fisheries Management Project. Up to 40% of participating students may be drawn from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences with the remaining number from sister departments within CANS through a competitive process and ensuring gender equity. Areas of focus will be academic-oriented activities, socio-cultural activities and the development of interpersonal skills, team building, problem-based learning and critical thinking approach to problem solving. Interested students are expected to meet all eligibility requirements, complete the application form and provide all relevant documents.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. All applicants must be students of CANS
  2. Must be in either Level 200 or 300 students during the 2018/2019 academic year
  3. CGPA of 2.5 or better
  4. Motivation letter
  5. Provide a valid passport (or acquire one by end of March 2019)
  6. Provide a police report by end of March 2019
  7. Must be capable of procuring own summer return ticket to the USA

*All other costs (including lodging, health and accident insurance, per diem for the trip will be funded by the project)
