A Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow from Central Connecticut State University, United States of America (USA), Dr Fumilayo Showers, has observed that many West African immigrants are attracted to heath care work in the USA because of relatively high wages and favourable work conditions.

The University of Cape Coast has won the 2018 edition of the Impact Africa Debate Championship & Intercontinental Public Speaking Contest ahead of University of Ibadan Nigeria and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology which was held from the 23rd to 27th of July at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, has met a team from Nevada State, United States of America to find areas of possible collaboration between the University and the state of Nevada.

 The Nevada team which was made up of seven officials from the University of Nevada was led by the Deputy Director of Economic Development, Nevada Governor’s Office, Derek Armstrong. Other members were Dr. Mary Croughan, Dr. Mridul Gautam, Dr. Robert Goldberg, Seema Gautam, Dr. Bo Bernhard, Carina Black and Bill Payne.

The University Junior High School, has held its 18th Awards Day Celebration with a call on teachers and parents to train their children to eschew all forms of littering in order to reduce the poor sanitary conditions in the country.

The programme was on the theme “Keeping a Healthy Environment: The Civic Duty of the Ghanaians Child”.

The University has honoured 86 staff who formally retired in 2018 at a Send Off and Long Service Awards Ceremony.

The retirees comprised 18 senior members, 34 senior and 34 junior staff. The retirees received citations, cash and items ranging from furniture, refrigerators, LED television, generator and gas cooker.

Mr. Kweku Essuon, from the Environmental Health Section who served for 44 years received a table top refrigerator as the longest serving staff of the University.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is calling on the Government to pay the 2017/2018 academic year Book and Research Allowance (BRA) as a matter of urgency.

According to the National President of UTAG, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah, all attempts by executives of the Union for the payment of BRA have proved unsuccessful.

Dr. Susannah Mayhew, the daughter of the first Director of the Directorate of Physical Development and Estate Section (DPDEM), late Mr. Alan Mayhew, has visited the University Primary School.

Dr. Mayhew who was at the School to inspect a Science Laboratory project sponsored by her father was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Michael Hammer and their children Annelie and Nicholas.
