This course is designed to expose prospective teachers of English to current methodological issues in second language teaching/learning and effective classroom management.
The course is in two parts. The first part deals with the role of government and non-governmental bodies in the development and growth of formal education in Ghana. The second part examines administration theories and their influence on the management and administration of school systems in Ghana.

The course outlines in the form of introduction, the concept, principles and Rules of teaching. It then focuses on the development of skills needed for preparing the basic types of plans including lesson plan required for history teaching. It also covers the methods and strategies that facilitate effective history teaching as well as the role of measurements and evaluation as a factor of motivation in history teaching.
This course exposes students of fundamental concepts of didactics of French as a foreign language. It initiates them into the teaching profession by giving them guidelines to follow in the French language class. The course also explains factors that influence the individual student’s ability to learn French as a foreign language.
This course will examine several definitions of Music-Philosophical, Sociological, aesthetic and Religious. A study of the music of Primitive societies will offer insight into the origins and nature of music including existing theories like Darwinian and the Calling Signal Theories. Class discussion will focus on musical symbols. Instrumental classification of use, musical styles in Africa and musical meaning. It will also answer several questions including what music communicates-non verbal feelings and musical functions in the African society.
This course is designed to expose prospective student teachers to historical background of the French language- origin and evolution. Students will also learn the functions of language in general and the French language in particular. They will also be introduced to the importance of French language to them as individuals and to Ghana as a nation. The course will also expose them to varieties of French in the world. In addition, students will also learn about the contributions of some organizations in the teaching/learning of French in Ghana.
This course explores the functions of language, language development and personal growth. It looks at research into the nature of the four macro skills of listening, speaking,
reading and writing and how they relate to learning. It also looks at the role of learning strategies in the encoding process.
This course examines the nature, common assumptions and sources of Moral Education. It explores current theories of moral development and their application to the learning of Moral Values. Special attention is given to the assessment of the morally educated person. (Lectures, Film shows, Discussions, Group/individuals presentations will be needed to deliver the content of this course).
Teaching English sets out to support the student teacher in that part of becoming a ‘good’ English teacher – ‘knowing the subject’ – by bringing together
some of the thinking on key areas in English, and relating that thinking to effective classroom practice.
