DESAG Ushers in New National and Regional Executives

The Distance Education Students’ Association of Ghana (DESAG) has held a handing over and induction ceremony to swear in a new National Executive Council (NEC) and Regional Presidents for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Acceptance Speech


In his acceptance speech, the new President, Mr. Daniel Nana Dwuma, expressed his profound gratitude to the entire membership of the association for the opportunity and confidence reposed in him to serve the association across the country. He entreated the new executives to work as a team to serve members with the synergy that would ensure the achievement of their primary aspiration of unity in DESAG. Mr. Dwuma said, “We have taken a decision to serve our people and we must do so with all our might, and to the best of our abilities.”  He was hopeful that the entire membership would continue to support the leadership to run affairs of the association smoothly. Mr. Dwuma also used the opportunity to solicit support from the Management of the College and the entire Student body, in order to make their reign a successful one. 

A Patron of the association, Dr. Felix Kumedzro, commended the immediate past Executives for their hard work and ability to liaise with the DESAG, Student body and College Management for the common goal of every student. He urged the new leadership to work diligently by prioritizing the interest and welfare of their members, the College and UCC at large. Dr. Kumedzro also advised them to consult the College Management and past leaders whenever the need arose.  

Advice to the Executives


The Provost, College of Distance Education (CoDE), Prof. Isaac K. A. Galyuon, urged the new leadership of the association to unite and pursue a common agenda. He charged them to communicate, and consult each other in their decision making for a successful service towards DESAG members across the country. Prof. Galyuon entreated the Executives to work with integrity, truthfulness, selflessness, hard work and be mindful of accountability in their dealings. He said, “Seek to correct your mistakes and be vigilant in your dealings, and be prepared to face any challenge that may come your way as a team for the good of DESAG and UCC.” The Provost, who chaired the occasion encouraged the leaders to connect and network. He assured the Executives of the full support and encouragement of Management of the College.

NEC Members

The new NEC members are Nana Dwuma Daniel – National President, Ibrahim Abdul Rauf – National Vice President, David Mensah – General Secretary, Godwin Owusu – Financial Secretary, Thelma Ofosua Tabi -  Women's’ Commissioner, Gerald De-Graft Asmah – Welfare Officer, King Edem Adzagbo – Public Relations Officer, Insay Ibrahim  Taufic – Sports Secretary, and Prince Appiagyei – Organizing Secretary.  The Regional Presidents that form part of the National Council are Gregory Boakye – Greater Accra Region, Godfred Agbenafa – Ashanti Region, Kafui Aheto Fredrick – Brong Ahafo Region, Nelson Amekpui – Western Region, Stephen Nyaa – Eastern Region, Matilda Abasi Lardi – Upper East Region, Vera Keenu – Upper West Region, Alex Addae Akomanyi – Central Region, Iddrisu Ibrahim – Northern Region, and Jerry Evans Sedor – Volta Region.


Citations of honour were presented to the Provost of the College, DESAG Patron and College Registrar, Mr. Isaac Eliot Nyieku. Certificates and citations of honour were also presented to the immediate past Executives for their dedication and stewardship.
