The President of City of Hope Cardiovascular Care and Therapeutics, USA, Dr. Collins Kwarteng, has called on the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K.T Oduro, at his office.
The purpose of the visit, according to Dr. Kwarteng, was to seek collaboration with the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to set up a Health Sciences University, with special focus on training cardiovascular health professionals.
He said the visit was also to seek further collaboration to establish a Cardiothoracic Centre, which will be affiliated to the University.
Dr. Kwarteng, who is a Ghanaian-American trained cardiologist, said Ghana lacked specially trained cardiovascular nurses and medics, hence his dream to set up the facilities to deal with cardiovascular related diseases.
On his part, Prof. George Oduro, after welcoming the delegation, said due to the financial constraints that confront tertiary institutions in Ghana, there was the need for the University to explore all avenues to seek collaborations with other partners.
Prof. Oduro expressed the University’s readiness to support Dr. Kwarteng to set up the facilities.
He called on Dr. Kwarteng to furnish the authorities at the School of Medical Sciences, the Directorate of the University Health Services and the Affiliation Office with his plans in order to get professional assistance to his dream of putting up the aforesaid facilities.
Mrs. Joyceline Nkansah, the President of the Ghana Association of Southern California, USA; Prof. Kwame Osei Kwarteng, Head, Department of History, UCC, and Mrs. Georgina Owusu, the Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, were present during the meeting.
