Faculty of Social Sciences Ushers in New Leadership

The Faculty of Social Sciences has held a handing-over ceremony to usher in new Dean and Heads of Department of the Faculty. 
    
In his acceptance speech, the new Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Akwasi Kumi-Kyereme, appealed the new HoDs to actively endeavour to include other staff to help reposition the Faculty by using innovative teaching methods to deliver. The Dean, again advised faculty members that, “Let us promptly address our challenges for efficient and effective redress.
 The former Acting Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Barima Kwabena Antwi, who handed over to Prof. Kumi-Kyereme indicated that the event was held to officially hand-over the faculty deanship, departmental headship and directorship positions from the outgoing leaders to incoming leaders in the faculty. 


The new Heads are Prof. Simon Mariwah-Director of Institute of Oil and Gas;     Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation -Dr. (Mrs.) Georgina Yaa Oduro; Dr. David Doku-Department of Population and Health; Dr. Eunice Amisah-Fay-Hospitality and Tourism Management; Dr. Ahmed Baba Yahaya-Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Dr. (Mrs.) Regina O. Amoako-Sakyi-Geography and Regional Planning ; 

Advice to New HoDs

The Provost, College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Prof. Francis Eric Amuquandoh, appealed to the former leadership to support the new leadership with their experience and expertise in order to realise the advancement of the faculty. The Provost congratulated the new leadership and assured them of the support of the College. He also advised, “You should not laud yourselves with your new positions, rather, be humbled in your service.
On behalf of the former HoDs, Prof. Augustine Tanle advised the incoming HoDs to work together with their colleagues in the faculty because togetherness has been the motivator that has propelled the upkeep and growth of the faculty. They also urged the new leaders to bring onboard new experience and expertise to build formidable departments and centres in the faculty to meet both modern academic and social standards to help carve a good image for the entire University community.

Perform Task with Diligence


The HoD of the Department of Population and Health, Dr. David Doku who spoke on behalf of the new HoDs said they would work hard to continue the good work that their predecessors started and perform their task with due diligence. They also expressed their gratitude for the confidence reposed in them to serve in their various departments and centres and promised to work in their unique capacities to promote the faculty and the University at large.

Togetherness


Stressing on togetherness, the Dean of Students, Prof. Eugene Darteh, advised the new leadership to work hard in their various jurisdictions to maintain the already established unity within the faculty. He also urged them to remain focused on the dispensation and delegation of their responsibilities.
The leadership of the faculty presented a citation to Prof. Amuquandoh, for his enormous support and contribution towards the development of the faculty.  
Present at the ceremony were the Faculty Officer, Faculty of Social Sciences, Mrs. Esther Rhoda Ababio, Faculty Officer, School of Economics, Mr. Ebenezer Aggrey, and some lecturers from the faculty.
