Pro Vice-Chancellor receives Prof. Agostino Merico

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Denis Aheto, has received a professor of Global Change Ecology at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research at the University of Breman, Germany, Prof. Agostino Merico, at his office.

The visit was to inform the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Winter School 2025 which will take place from 27- 31 January, 2025 at the University of Cape Coast.

According to Prof. Agostino Merico, the Winter School was aimed at exploring a number of ecological problems using state-of-the-art modelling methods, including differential equation-based and agent-based modelling.

He added that the Winter School promotes cultural exchange between students of different backgrounds and fosters ethical and legal values in ocean governance for a sustainable and peaceful use of marine resources.

“The Winter School is an opportunity for enthusiastic students to learn and discuss mathematical modelling techniques that are relevant for addressing problems in marine ecology, fishery, and climate,” added Prof. Merico.

For his part, Prof. Aheto commended Prof. Merico for choosing UCC to host the Winter School.

He assured him of the University’s support to make the event a success.

The discussion also covered a wide range of academic issues of mutual interest.

Present at the meeting were the Head of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Science, Prof. Joseph Aggrey-Fynn, and the Senior Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Alfred Ghartey.
