The University of Cape Coast Basic School –North Campus, formerly known as Basic School Annex has held its 2nd Speech and Prize Giving Day on the theme ‘The Role of Self-Discipline in Achieving Academic Excellence.’
In his address, the Vice Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Kankam Boadu, called on the pupils to remain focused, determined, diligent, time conscious, and hardworking. He said that, for a student to become academically excellent, he/ she must be God fearing, respectful, self-disciplined, dutiful and punctual in his/ her academic endeavours.
The guest speaker advised parents and teachers to take keen interest in moulding children morally and academically in order to achieve academic excellence.
The Chairman for the function, Mr. Moses Maclean Abnory, urged parents and teachers to team up and ensure the development of the pupils. He commended the parents for taking keen interest in the activities of the school.
The Chairperson of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) , Madam Mary Enos, said during Speech and Prize Giving Day, the School Governing Council, PTA, teaching and non-teaching staff and pupils take stock of activities of the previous year(s) and take realistic decisions to improve them in the ensuing year. She said the ceremony was also to reward deserving pupils and encourage others to work assiduously. She expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire University Administration, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school for their hard work towards the development of the UCC Basic School –North Campus.
The Head Teacher, Mr. Victor Addison, in his report stated that the School has been connected to the national grid. He said some pupils of the School embarked on an exchange programme to Togo and educational tour to Kumasi. He indicated that the School acquired new furniture due to the increasing size of the pupils. He added that athletes from the School were part of the Basic School team that won the 2018 UBaSSA Games hosted by UCC.
Mr. Addison mentioned poor road link; soggy nature of the school compound; unavailability of proper playing field and lack of vehicle to convey emergency cases to hospital as some of the challenges the facing the School.
Prizes were presented to deserving pupils from pre-school, primary and junior high school. Some National Service Personnel received prizes for their hard work.
Among the dignitaries present at the Speech and Prize Giving Day were Bishop Wisdom K. E. Tsyi of the Light House Chapel International, Chairperson of the Basic School Governing Board, Dr. Abigail Opoku Mensah and Headteacher of the University Basic School, Mrs. Georgina Aglobitse.
