The Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, UCC, Dr. Sir Sam Jonah, has paid a working and familiarization visit to the University to interact with staff.
The visit afforded the Chancellor the opportunity to obtain at firsthand and respond to questions and concerns of staff.
Addressing staff, the Chancellor saluted them on their sacrifices and forbearance in the face of the current economic conditions in the country.
He attributed the economic conditions facing Ghana to its import-dependent economy. He wondered why the country would import tooth pick whilst financial assistance could be given to local industries to produce goods locally to boost the economic development of the country.
"Ghana will not get any better until we stop the voluptuous appetite for foreign products and start producing our own. We should own our economy," he added.
Guard against Complacency
Whilst urging staff to maintain the academic feat the University recently chalked in the Higher Times ranking, Sir Sam Jonah advised them to guard against complacency to win more laurels to UCC.
He told management of the University to pool resources to sectors of the University that constantly put UCC on a giant pedestal worldwide.

The Chancellor reiterated his firm commitment to give off his best to support UCC and advised staff of the University to treat one another with respect, civility and dignity to increase productivity.
He admonished all leaders to be transparent and underlined that the leadership one provided would be remembered in future.
The programme, christened "Chancellor's Visit" which formed part of the 60th anniversary of UCC, was moderated by the Registrar, Mr. Jeff Teye Emmanuel Onyame, who advocated such events be organized annually.
Later in the evening, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, hosted a reception in honour of the Chancellor, Sir Dr Sam Jonah
In his brief speech, Dr. Jonah recounted memories of his investiture as Chancellor in 2001 and how happy he was to associate himself with UCC.
He thanked members of the University Community for the kind gesture and continuous support.
A highlight of the event was when the Chancellor took to the dancing floor to dance to tunes from Suapon Band of UCC.
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, proposed a toast to long life and sound health for the Chancellor.
The dinner attracted high-profile personalities, including the Registrar, Provosts, Deans, Directors and Faculty Officers of UCC.
