The Director of Internal Audit at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, has emerged as the best Internal Auditor for the 2023/24 auditing year.
This year’s event, themed, Consolidating Democratic Governance and Accountability; Role of Internal Auditors,” was held at the University of Professional Studies.
The conference brought together key stakeholders in the public sector internal audit space, including heads of public institutions and audit committees among others, to chart the way forward towards improving public sector internal audit performance.
Mr. Owusu, who received a plaque for his award, expressed his gratitude to the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) for the recognition.
He acknowledged that his success was not an individual achievement but a result of the collective efforts of his dedicated team at the Internal Audit Directorate. He gave assurance that the recognition and encouragement from the award would inspire him to reach even greater heights in his professional journey.
He expressed optimism about the prospects of the Directorate of Internal Audit-UCC, envisioning a promising path of progress and continuous improvement.
The Director General of IAA, Dr Eric Osae, congratulated Mr. Emmanuel Owusu on his award and urged him to inspire the up-and-coming auditors in the country.
He called for the amendment of the Internal Audit Act to give power to the Agency to prosecute its members on financial irregularities quarterly. He said that under the Public Financial Law, internal auditors were required to present their reports quarterly and that delays in prosecuting financial malfeasance may enable the perpetrator to run.
In an address read on behalf of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, charged Internal Auditors to continue to hold onto the tenets of professional standards in the performance of their duties.
He urged the auditors to adhere to their mandates of ensuring that public resources were utilised effectively and efficiently.
