The Welfare Section of the Directorate of Human Resources has embarked on a three-day trip to visit some retired staff of the university.
The Outreach team which was led by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Welfare Section Mrs. Betty Addo Nkrumah, visited Kasoa, Accra, Buni in the Sampa Municipality in the Bono Region and Obuasi in the Adansi District of Ashanti Region.
Retired Staff the Team Visited
The Seven retirees visited are Dr. Yao Djirakor, Prof. Naa Afaley Sackeyfio, Dr. G. M Adamu, Prof. Y. S. Boafo, Mr. John Gadzi, Mr. I. Y Boadi and Mr. Andrew K. Bour.
At Buni near Sampa, Mr. Andrew K. Bour who retired in 1983 together with his family and some friends within the neighborhood welcomed the outreach team at his residence, shedding tears and said the visit was a big surprise to him since he never thought of a day like this would come and described the visit to his humble abode as a “blessing”.
Prof. Naa Afaley Sackeyfio who retired in the 90s gladly welcomed the outreach team and advocated for the sustainability of the programme for more retirees to be reached.
A former Pro Vice-Chancellor and former Ghana’s Ambassador to Cote D’vor, Prof. Y. S. Boafo expressed his sincere gratitude to the University and its Management and also called for the sustainability of the initiative since to him “it’s refreshing and heartwarming”. He also advised other institutions to emulate such initiatives “to make sure that after one’s retirement there’re still concerns”.
Presentations
Mrs. Betty Addo Nkrumah presented gifts and cash to the retirees and thanked them for their selfless dedication to work which has brought the University this far and promised to attend to them anytime they call on the University.
