GAUW-UCC Swears in New Executives

The Ghana Association of University Women (GAUW), University of Cape Coast (UCC) chapter has held a handover ceremony to formally induct its newly elected executives.

At the brief ceremony held at the Conference Room of the Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy, and Documentation (CEGRAD), the immediate past president of the Association, Mrs. Mildred Asmah, congratulated the new executives led by Dr. Genevive Adukpo and wished them well in their future endeavours.

She further singled out Prof. D. D. Kuupole, a former Vice-Chancellor and Prof. G.K.T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor, for their enormous contributions towards the growth of the Association.

Mrs. Asmah, who served as president between 2016 and 2023, asked the new executives to impress on female administrators in the University to join the Association. She also implored the Dr. Adukpo- led administration to sustain the Girls' Science Project and the Menstrual Hygiene Project initiated during her tenure to help the girl-child in the country. She also entreated the new officers to mentor up and coming girls on campus.

The immediate past GAUW-UCC president advised the new executives to embrace teamwork in the execution of their duties to accomplish more for the association.

In her maiden remarks, the president of the Association, Dr. Adukpo, thanked her predecessor for her long years of diligent service to the Association and pledged that her executives would work tirelessly to accomplish the goals of the Association.  She again mentioned her team’s preparedness to continue outstanding projects the old administration was unable to complete.

She said the new executives would engage senior university officials to court their support for the Association and discarded the notion that the Association was solely for university graduates.

The President said she would endeavour to bring on board Women's Caucus on campus to share the same objectives to empower women in the country.
