UCC Law Lecturer appointed to serve on PIAC

The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, acting through its President, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani, has appointed Mr Constantine C.M. Kudzedzi as the Bishops’ representative to the board of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC).

Most Rev. Gyamfi, in a release, congratulated Mr. Kudzedzi on his appointment and reminded him  that his appointment was a call to public service and he must do so in ways that advanced the cause of PIAC.

He added that PIAC has become a key partner with other stakeholders in the quest for transparent and accountable management of petroleum revenue for the benefit of the people of Ghana and urged Mr. Kudzedzi to work in the interest of the nation.

Commenting on his appointment as the Bishops’ representative on the board of PIAC, he expressed gratitude to the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference for the confidence reposed in him and pledged his commitment to ensure that PIAC delivered effectively on its mandate.

He expressed gratitude to the staff and students of the University of Cape Coast, especially the Faculty of Law, for their unflinching support towards his appointment.

PIAC

The PIAC is a 13-member national citizen-led statutory body established by an Act of Parliament under section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), 2011 (Act 815) as amended by Act 893 of 2015 to provide an additional non-parliamentary and independent oversight over the collection, allocation and utilization of Ghana’s Petroleum Revenue. The three core mandates of PIAC are to:

 

Monitor and evaluate compliance with the Act by Government and relevant institutions in the management and use of petroleum revenues and investments

Provide space and platform for public debate on whether spending prospects, management and use of revenues conform to development priorities as provided under section 21.3 of the Act.

  Provide independent assessment on the management and use of petroleum revenues to assist Parliament and the Executive in the oversight and performance of related functions.
