The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has hosted members of Confucius Institute International Board from Hunan City University, China, at his office.
The meeting discussed matters aimed at strengthening educational ties between the two institutions.
The delegation were: Vice-President, Prof. Tan Xian Liang of Hunan City University; Director of Evaluation Office, Prof. Zeng Ge; Dean, School of Humanities, Prof. Fu Jianan. Others were: Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Du Lin Yuan and Deputy Director, Office of Scientific Research, Prof. Zhao Xu.
Prof. Boampong said UCC had enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the Confucius Institute for nearly a decade. He averred that the collaboration had led to the establishment of a Confucius Institute on UCC campus, which had played a crucial role in promoting the teaching of the Chinese language and culture.
“The benefit of this relationship goes beyond UCC to other tertiary institutions, senior high schools, and basic schools in the Central region,” he stressed.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of cross-cultural understanding in today’s globalized world. He noted that the Confucius Institute played a vital role in enhancing the learning of the Chinese language and culture, which could greatly benefit students and faculty alike.
“This meeting marks a new chapter in our partnership,” Prof. Boampong stated. “Together, we can build bridges between our cultures and foster a greater understanding that transcends geographical boundaries.”
The leader of the delegation, Prof. Liang shared insights into ongoing initiatives and potential collaborative projects that could enhance academic cooperation.
He reiterated the Institute’s readiness to co-operate with UCC to create opportunities for joint research, faculty exchanges, and cultural programmes designed to enrich the educational experience for students at both institutions.
Prof. Liang thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception and reiterated the Institute’s commitment to strengthening ties with UCC.
Some of the issues discussed at the meeting were: Introduction of B.Ed (Chinese); establishment of the West Africa Centre for Training and Testing of Chinese Teachers; elevation of the UCCCI to the status of a faculty; students and staff exchange; joint academic conference, building complex for UCCCI.
Also present at the meeting were the Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq.; Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof. Sarfo Sarfo-Kantankah; China Director of UCCCI, Ou Yamei; Ghana Director of UCCI, Prof. Emmanuel Amo Ofori and College Registrar, College of Humanities and Legal Studies (CHLS), Mr. Ebenezer Aggrey.
