The APAIE Annual Conference and Exhibition is one of the most well-known forums in the Asia-Pacific region for bringing together policy-makers and education experts from around the world to improve professional skills and learn about new developments in international education. The nine local host universities, led by the University of Melbourne, will welcome distinguished guests to the 11th Annual APAIE Conference from 29 February – 3 March, 2016, in Melbourne, Australia.
The Winneba Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Offei Ankrah-Badu has observed that Ghana can achieve optimum development if citizens become very responsible in whatever endeavor they find themselves. He noted that the country has been lacking behind in terms of development due to mediocrity, high level of corruption, lawlessness and other social ills in the Ghanaian society. Delivering a sermon during thanksgiving service for Prof. George K. T. Oduro and Rev. Prof. Seth Asare-Danso at the Bethel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Cape Coast, Apostle Ankrah-Badu said responsible leadership must come with a sense of duty, accountability and excellence to rise above mediocrity. Prof. Oduro was recently elected to take the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor effective January 2016 for a three year term whilst Rev. Prof. Asare-Danso was also promoted to Associate Professor. Apostle Ankrah-Badu advised citizens to accept responsibility for their actions and desist from blaming others. Present at the service were some family members of Prof. Oduro and Rev. Prof. Asare-Danso.
The Electricity Section of the University of Cape Coast has honoured two retired staff of the Section for their long dedicated service to the University at a ceremony on campus. The two staff, Mr. Patrick Kwofie and Mr. Robert Sam served the University for 35 years and 39 years respectively. Each of them received a table top refrigerator and cash as their end of service package. Speaking at the function, the Head of Electricity Section, Mr. Joseph Wilberforce Ansah expressed gratitude to the two retired staff for their commitment to duty and also serving as a source of inspiration to the younger staff. He explained that the Electricity Section began this awards ceremony for retired staff in 1998 to express appreciation to them and also motivate active staff to work very hard. Mr. Ansah said that it was through such a ceremony that the University decided to present items such as refrigerators, television and furniture to retired staff. “The former, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Addow-Obeng attended a ceremony to award retired staff of the Electricity Section and he was surprised that we were giving them refrigerators and furniture, so he tasked the Welfare Section to also adopt this practice and since then staff going on retirement are given these items,” he explained. The two retired staff thanked the head and staff of the section for the honour done them. They encouraged them to be united and work towards the development of the University.

The Institute for Development Studies (IDS) will be running the above mentioned programme at the IDS, University of Cape Coast, Ghana from May to July, 2016. The Executive Postgraduate Certificate in Labour Policy Studies (LPS) programme is designed and aimed at strengthening the capacity of African trade unions as partners in the development process in order to effectively influence the social, economic and political conditions under which people live and work in Africa. Thus, the Labour Policy Studies (LPS) programme is an international post-graduate trade union education and training programme that offers career development and enhancement opportunities for trade union office holders, trade union policy makers, government officials and policy makers and/or advisers of management or employer organizations actively involved in labour policy issues across Africa; labour practitioners, trade union educators and researchers, HRM practitioners and also representatives of NGOs, journalists, academics and researchers etc. The LPS is an intensive programme offered over a 12-week period on a modular basis, with courses delivered by seasoned local and international University lecturers and researchers in the field of labour in Africa and beyond. Also very experienced and seasoned trade unionists and labour practitioners deliver courses and seminars on the programme. This year, the LPS programme will run between 4th May and 31st July 2016. The LPS programme is run on a fee paying basis. The fees for this year (2016) are: GH¢5,000 for Ghanaian Applicants and GH¢6,000 for non-Ghanaian applicants covering tuition and basic course materials only. Boarding and Lodging will be at applicant’s own cost. Attached for your attention is a copy of the Application Form from which you may run several copies for your members. Please note however, that an amount of GH¢250.00 (Two Hundred Ghana Cedis) will have to be paid to the Institute for Development Studies as Processing Fee for the programme. A copy of the pay-in-slip should be attached to the forms on submission. (Foreign students will pay this fee on arrival).
