The Ad-Hoc Committee for Staff Audit in the UCC Basic Schools has presented its report to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K. T. Oduro.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee, Dr. Dickson Hippolyt Angbing, thanked management of the University for having confidence in the team to undertake such an important assignment. He was hopeful that management would study the report and critically examined the recommendations for implementation
The Second lady of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia, has advised female students of the University to broaden their horizon and acquire valuable skills that can make them competitive globally.
“The woman’s place is at the top and it is time we take up the challenging role not just in our schools and communities but in our society” she said.
A senior lecturer at the Department of Conservation Biology and Entomology, Dr. Andreas Kudom, has called on stakeholders and policy makers to adopt new strategies on Malaria prevention through continuous research.
He noted that though a lot of resources had been invested into malaria prevention programmes, there had not been any significant decreases in cases of malaria in the country.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences has organised the 3rd exhibition to showcase some products produced by undergraduate students to the general public.
Some products displayed at the exhibition were, variety of herbal tea, alcoholic beverages, soap, body lotion/cream, hair creams, fruit juices, Bissap and other natural products.
The Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) has organised a training programme for first year M. Phil students who will be going on internship.
The programme dubbed “Executive Secretarial Practice’’ is a mandatory exercise for all M. Phil students of IEPA.
The immediate past Chairman of Senior Staff Association of the University of Cape Coast (SSAUCC) Mr. Daniel Egyir Arthur, has handed over to the 1st Vice Chairman, Mr. Charles Amos-Odoom, as the Acting Chairman of the Union.
Mr. Egyir has been elevated to the level of a senior member and, therefore, cannot hold any position in the SSAUCC according to the Union’s constitution.
A research fellow at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Mike Boakye-Yiadom has urged Ghanaian men to join in the fight against the sexual abuse of women across the world.
According to him, the issue of sexual harassment is on the rise and the agenda to kick against it must not be left for women only.
Speaking at a public lecture at Webster University on the #MeToo movement, Dr. Boakye Yiadom said sexual harassment policies within institutions must be implemented.

The Department of Optometry in collaboration with Vision Aid Overseas(VAO) has organised an eye screening exercise for four communities in the Central Region.
Residents of Abakrampa, Komenda, Jukwa and Esuekyir benefitted from the screening exercises. The team screened more than 2, 000 residents from these communities for various eye diseases. Some were presented with spectacles whilst those with serious eye defects such as cataract and glaucoma were referred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for further examinations and treatment.
The Dean of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS), Prof. Francis Ofei, has launched the 2018 Brain Awareness week celebrations at the University.
Lunching the week-long celebrations, Prof. Ofei called for the introduction of screening new-born babies for Thyroid deficiencies as done elsewhere to prevent brain complications in children.
To this end, he said: “It is done in the Western world, we have not found remedies to these and need to embrace this by looking out for the causes in autism for example”.
