15th Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lectures and Special Congregation

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr., a distinguished Ghanaian journalist, Pan-Africanist, newspaper publisher, broadcaster, political analyst, media executive and author with more than five decades of experience in journalism, public communication, political advocacy and institutional leadership, will deliver the 15th Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

 Mr. Pratt, a renowned Pan-Africanist and champion of Nkrumaism, will speak on the theme, "Kwame Nkrumah, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Perspectives on Constitutionalism, Development and Pan-Africanism."

 Drawing on his extensive knowledge of African history, political movements, journalism, liberation struggles and Pan-African thought, Mr. Pratt will engage his audience in reflecting on Nkrumah's enduring legacy.

 The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture series honours the legacy of Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who played a pivotal role in the African independence movement and the establishment of the Organization of African Unity, now the African Union.

 On the second day of the lecture, the University of Cape Coast will reconstitute the assembly into a special congregation to confer an honorary degree (Doctor of Letters, honoris causa) on Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr. in recognition of his outstanding service to humanity and the media landscape.

 The lecture is open to the general public and will be livestreamed on the University of Cape Coast's Facebook page, TV UCC's YouTube channel and the platforms of accredited partner media houses.

 About the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lectures

 The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Lecture series was instituted by UCC in 1974 and inaugurated in November 1976 by the University's first Chancellor, Dr. Archie Casely Hayford.

 The lectures are dedicated to the memory of the first President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. They address issues concerning the social, economic and political development of Africa in particular and the Black world in general. These issues were central to Dr. Nkrumah's work, and his lifelong efforts to resolve them became a major source of inspiration and confidence for the Black world.

 Since its inception, the lecture series has featured scholars, heads of state, ministers, diplomats and other professionals from across Africa who have delivered thought-provoking lectures on a variety of topics.

 The 15th edition of the lecture will take place from 17th to 18th September 2026 at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, University of Cape Coast (UCC). The First Lecture will commence at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, 17th September 2026, and the Second Lecture together with the Special Congregation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 18th September 2026.
