The Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD) in collaboration with Freie Universität Berlin has held a Workshop at the University of Cape Coast For Equality Officers Trainers of Trainees. The theme of the training was Equal Opportunities in Higher Education: Partnership for Institutional Change (EQUIP). The workshop was to give participants a concrete introduction to their roles as gender equality officers.
The Train the Trainer Workshop was a follow up on the workshop on implementing gender equality in higher education held in June 2021. While the first workshop served as an introduction to the topic as a broad engagement with several facets of gender equality work, this workshop highlighted specific points of a gender equality officers work.
The aim of the workshop was to prepare the participants for both their roles as gender equality officers at UCC and as trainers/facilitators for future gender equality officers at UCC and other universities in Ghana and Central Africa.
Dr. Georgina Yaa Oduro, Director of CEGRAD, in her welcome address explained that CEGRAD has secured a four-year funding from DAAD-DIES Germany to undertake a project on institutionalizing equal opportunity practices at the University of Cape Coast. She further explained that, the Partnership, housed by CEGRAD but led by Prof. Dr. Guelay Caglar of FUB and Prof. Akua Opokua Britwum of UCC, has an overall goal of establishing and improving institutional structures and processes that promote equal opportunities in higher education in the University of Cape Coast.
