The Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC) of University of Cape Coast has held a training workshop for selected members of faculty of the University. The training, which spanned three days, equipped the over twenty participants with knowledge and skills on R data analysis- a programming language for statistical computing and graphics. The training was held from Monday 14th February, 2022 to Wednesday 16th February, 2022.
At the opening of the training, the Director of DRIC, Prof. Frederick Ato Armah said the workshop as well as others organized by the Directorate was geared towards achieving the University’s research agenda.
The training encompassed introduction to R- studio and R working environment. Participants were modeled through a vivid practical session on Data Visualization. The participants were also, practically, trained on R Data Structures, Programming in R and Essential Statistical Modeling. The last day of the training featured a Mini Project where participants were given hands-on projects to complete.
Closing the workshop, Prof. Armah urged participants to apply the skills acquired in their own domain to advance the frontiers of knowledge. He added that DRIC would continue to give lecturers the opportunity to learn current trends and the University will count on the participants to apply the skills to produce quality research and advance the mission of the University to be a university of world acclaim.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Efiba Kwarteng, Mr. Fiifi Turkson, and Mr. Da-Costa Asare from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The training was coordinated by Prof. David Teye Doku, Deputy Director of DRIC-UCC, with support from Dr. Francis Annor, a Senior Research Fellow at DRIC, and other staff and representatives from the Directorate.
