GEOSOC Members Explore Tourist Sites in Eastern Region

Aside regular classroom activities, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) gives avenue for students to also discover and learn about Ghana, especially the various tourist destinations in the country.

Against this backdrop, the Geographical Society (GESOC) at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning-UCC seized the chance to offer its members the golden opportunity to experience the beauty of Ghana’s natural and unique wildlife.

To explore and learn about some of the rich tourist sites in the country, the students visited the Aburi Botanical Gardens, Boti Falls, Umbrella Rock (all in the Eastern Region) as well as the Accra Zoo.

The visits were also part of activities geared towards deepening the domestic tourism agenda in Ghana.

It was a fun trip for most students who were visiting the Region for the first time and shared their experience.

Miss. Justina Yeboah, a level 200 student, who could not hide her excitement over the breathtaking beauty of the sites visited, thanked the executives of GEOSOC and asked for more of such programmes.

Another, Mr. Benjamin Attakorah, a level 100 student, who was also visiting the tourist sites in the Region for the first time, said the trip was beneficial because he learnt new things.

In an interview, President of GEOSOC, Mr.  Raphael Sanzah, explained that embarking on such educational trips was part of the scheduled academic work at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning.

He pointed out, “We make GEOSOC members go on such field trips to enable them understand what they are taught in class.”

Dr. Yvonne Adjakloe, the GEOSOC Patroness, accompanied the students on the educational tour.
