The Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof (Mrs) Rosemond Boohene has urged the leadership of the UCC wing of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana –GRASAG to be dynamic in carrying out their mandate.

According to her, the leadership must look beyond pursuing academic excellence only and inculcate entrepreneurship, volunteerism as well as positively influencing communities around the University.  By this, she said “The communities will feel the impact of the University.”

“You could begin with reading clubs in some of the communities around the university and help pupils better their reading” she advised.  

Prof. Boohene said these when the executives of GRASAG-UCC paid a courtesy call on her on Friday, March 18, 2022. The visit by the student leaders was to formally welcome the Pro Vice-Chancellor since she assumed the high office and pledge their support for her and management of the University. 

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, who expressed gratitude for the gesture, indicated that the growth of the University is highly hinged on the mutual efforts of management and leadership of the various groups. She maintained that ensuring a peaceful co-existence within the educational ecosystem could not be easily overlooked. 

Prof. Boohene further tasked the executives to scout for opportunities in the form of available scholarships to help their members pursue higher studies in other countries. She also reiterated the need for the students to be entrepreneurially minded. By this means, she said, the students would only not earn wages for their upkeep but also gain experience in the world of work.

She assured the executives of her readiness to work with them towards ensuring an enabling environment for their studies and holistic growth. 

President of GRASAG-UCC, Emmanuel Yaw Gyimah, who led the delegation expressed gratitude to the Pro VC for her warmth. Also present at the meeting was an Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Alfred Ghartey.
