The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), in collaboration with the Sam Jonah Library has held a training program for first year postgraduate students to help them access e-resource materials and database in the University library.
The students were introduced to the subscription-based journals to Mendeley software to help them to write their thesis and organize their references. They were also introduced to running their theses through the Turnitin software to avoid plagiarism. The resource person, Mr. Isaac Nketsiah, an Assistant Research Fellow at the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC), explained that postgraduate students’ work is the core drive for most institutions’ research. “When they go through this training and are equipped with the skillsets to assess good data, they will be able to come out with good publications,” he said.
He noted that with the University’s current subscription to the Times Higher Education Rankings, postgraduate students are to be equipped with skills of accessing the accurate resources to come up with innovative findings to sustain the institution’s position in the rankings.
He also added that since the training is an annual program, it is going to refine postgraduate students with the skillsets to help maintain the institutions visibility on global educational rankings. The software is available to all students.
The program was spearheaded by the University Librarian, Dr. Mac Anthony Cobblah and Prof. Sarah Darkwah, the Dean of School of Graduate Studies. The other resource persons were Mr. Osman Imoro, Mr. Emmanuel Manu Agyapong, Mr. Paul Nunekpeku and Mr. Kwasi Opuni Karikari.
