The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has awarded honorary degrees to seven remarkable individuals for their substantial contributions to public life and the University in diverse ways.
The seven honorees were Ehunaborim Prah Agyensaim (Honorary Doctor of Law), Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area in Central Region; Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong (Honorary Doctor of Business Administration), the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh(Honorary Doctor of Educational Leadership ), the Minister of Energy.
The rest were Rev. Prof. Harold Stewart Amonoo-Kuofi ; the foundation Dean of the School of Medical Sciences-UCC; Dr. Deborah Rose (Honorary Doctor of Education) ; the President of the Helping Africa Foundation (HAF) ; Dr. Yaw Adu-Agyei Gyamfi (Honorary Doctor of Entrepreneurship); the Chief Executive Officer of Danpong Healthcare Group, and Prof. Daniel Asua Wubah (Honorary Doctor of Strategic Leadership); President of Millersville University of Pennsylvania, US.
The awardees were presented the coveted awards at a Special Congregation held at the New Examination Centre (NEC).

The well-attended ceremony was highly patronised by important personalities.
Present at the ceremony to support the awardees included the Minister of Trade and Industries, Hon. K.T. Hammond, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps, traditional rulers and the clergy.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
The Chairman of the Governing Council of the UCC, Prof. Obeng Mireku, in his address, congratulated the honorees and urged them to use their good offices through connections and networks to bring many opportunities to the University.
“As I do with all Alumni, I urge you to remember your alma mater wherever you will be and in whatever capacity you will find yourselves. This is certainly an added reason for you to do more for this University now your alma mater,” he continued.
Stalled project
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, speaking at the ceremony, hailed the honorees for their recognition by the University.

He further made a passionate appeal to Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr Opoku-Ahweneeh Danaquah, and singled out two of the honourees – Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong - to assist the University to complete one of the University’s stalled projects, the Institute for Law and Governance Complex, which was worth five million US Dollars ($5,000,000).
Prof. Boampong told the gathering that sod for the construction of the aforesaid building complex- being financed by the GNPC as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility- was cut in August 2021.

When completed, according to him, the Institute would be a place to train more human capital for national development.

Prof. Boampong urged the awardees to be good ambassadors of UCC by contributing towards growth and development of the University.

“Now that you are alumni of this great University, we expect you to contribute your quota to enhance our status as the leading University with a world-wide acclaim” he urged them.
