UCC secures partnership deal with Bucknell University to establish Engineering School

The University of Cape Coast has secured a partnership with Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in the United States of America to establish a School of Engineering. The agreement which includes Curriculum Development and other academic related activities would also see Bucknell University sponsor a student from UCC for a semester exchange programme annually, support capacity building for staff of UCC’s Directorate of Physical Development and Estate Management and other Faculty Related Exchanges.

Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, who is on a working visit to some strategic partners of UCC in the USA, brokered the deal on behalf of the University on Thursday, 24th March, 2022. The VC’s visit is aligned with the University’s vision of positioning itself as the preferred Sub-Saharan African University for external partners.

Similarly, Salisbury University in the USA has also accepted to partner UCC to develop curriculum and offer graduate courses and programmes in Trans Sahara Slave Trade, Community and Psych Mental Health and research collaborations. The University is already preparing to receive a member of faculty from UCC for an exchange programme for a year.

UCC has been adjudged in the recent release of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University’s Ranking as the number one University in Ghana, West Africa and among the top 5 in Africa. As such, the University seeks to consolidate this position by deepening existing relationships with American Universities and creating new ones.

So far, the Vice-Chancellor has visited two Universities; Bucknell University and Salisbury University. He is scheduled to visit two more before he returns to Ghana.
