Half of the world’s population depends upon rice as their premium staple food. In recent history, rice consumption has travelled far beyond Asian countries to become the fastestgrowing food staple in Africa – and unscrupulous people are taking advantage of this massive business opportunity.

The University has honoured lecturers who have distinguished themselves through research at the fourth Research Awards and Grants Ceremony held under the auspices of the Directorate of Research Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC).

Three officials from the University of Rhode Island (URI), United States of America (USA) have paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah. The officials were the Senior Manager at the Coastal Resources Center, URI, Dr. Brian Crawford, Prof. Brietta Oaks from the College of Health Sciences, and the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives, Dr. Gifty Ako-Adounvo. They were accompanied by the Chief-of-Party of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Sustainable Fisheries Management Project, Dr. Raymond Babanawo.

The Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD), has organised a two-day workshop (orientation) for freshmen and women for the 2019/2020 academic year. This was also to mark the 2nd Camp Life Tidbits Workshop.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development (CESED), UCC, has organised a training workshop for facilitators on the University-wide Entrepreneurship Course.

Stating the purpose of the workshop, the Director of DRIC, Prof. Frederick Ato Armah, explained that it was is to build capacities of faculty members and postgraduates students on Grantsmanship and Multi-Disciplinary Research Collaboration. He, therefore, urged participants to cooperate and contribute their quota to the success of the programme.

Fresh students admitted to pursue various programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for the 2019/2020 academic year have been taken through a one-week orientation programme.

The orientation programme was to introduce the fresh students to rules, regulations and policies Colleges, Faculties/Schools and Departments as well as managing their expectations as they begin their academic journey at UCC.
