DEADLINES - The deadlines for the sale of application e-vouchers and the submission of completed application forms are Friday, 27th May, 2022 and Friday, 3rd June, 2022 respectively.

2.0       ONLINE APPLICATIONS

a.      Applicants should visit http://apply.ucc.edu.gh/ for further instructions. Applicants should select CLICK TO APPLY FOR PROGRAMME and select UNDERGRADUATE ENTRY under VERIFY VOUCHER to proceed. Applicants should select the MATURE application type.

All applicants are required to provide the following information at the back of the large EMS envelope: (a) application reference number (b) names in full – no abbreviations accepted (c) postal address (d) first choice programme and (e) application category which should be MATURE.

Applicants are advised to read application instructions as well as the contents of the admissions brochure/prospectus very carefully before completing the online application form. They should do well to verify their SSSCE/WASSCE results.  Applications on which APPLICATION REFERENCE NUMBERS are not indicated will not be processed.

3.0       ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR MATURE CANDIDATES

            Applicants seeking admission as Mature Candidates must;

i.          be, at least,  Twenty-Five (25) years old by 31st May, 2022.  A copy of applicant’s birth certificate issued not less than five (5) years from the day of completing the application form should be enclosed with the application materials.

ii.        have any one of the following:

§  Minimum of Senior High School Certificate

§  Teacher’s Cert. ‘A’

§  NVTI Certificate

§  NABPTEX Certificate

NB. a) Applicants who do not have credit passes in English and Mathematics at either SSSCE/WASSCE or GCE ‘O’ Level would be required to register for and pass special examinations in those subjects after payment of a fee of GHS 60.00 per subject.

b)   All applicants are also required to pay GHS 250.00 to cover cost of examination and preparatory classes fees.

      c)   (a) and (b) above will be paid on arrival.

4.0       ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

4.1       Main Papers

            The main examinations for candidates will comprise;

i.          General Paper

ii.         Aptitude Test

4.2       Special/Practical Papers

i. Special examinations in Mathematics and English Language for candidates who do not have credit passes at G.C.E. ‘O’ Level (grade 6 or better) or WASSCE/SSSCE (grade C6/D or better).

ii. Practical examinations will be conducted for candidates applying for the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education (Health, Physical Education & Recreation) programmes on a date which will be communicated to successful applicants.

4.3       Dates for Examinations

            i. Thursday, 30th June, 2022     -  General Paper and Aptitude Test

            ii. Friday, 1st July, 2022            - Special Papers in Mathematics and English   

4.4       Preparatory Classes

PREPARATORY CLASSES WILL BE RUN FOR ALL APPLICANTS BY THE UNIVERSITY from Monday, 13th June, 2022 to Tuesday, 28th June, 2021 on selected topics to enhance their chances of passing the entrance examination. Applicants are expected to report to campus on Saturday, 11th June, 2022. An orientation programme will be held for all applicants on Sunday, 12th June, 2022 at 3:00 pm prompt in CA Ackah Lecture Theatre 2 (CAALT 2) before the start of the preparatory classes. All applicants are expected to participate in the orientation programme.

4.5       Accommodation

Applicants are encouraged to make their own accommodation arrangements with the Halls of residence (at a subsidized rate of Ten Ghana Cedis per night) at the North campus of the University (New Site) for the period of the preparatory classes and the examinations.

4.6       Placement of Successful Applicants

Successful applicants will, on admission, be placed at Level 100 of their respective programmes of choice.

5.0       SUBMISSION OF COMPLETED ONLINE APPLICATION FORMS

(a)      Copies of completed online application forms (confirmation pages) accompanied by photocopies of results slip(s), birth certificate, payment slips or receipts, transcripts (where applicable) and other relevant documents should be sent by POST and NOT delivered by hand.

Completed online application forms should reach the Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs (DAA), University of Cape Coast not later than Friday, 3rd June, 2022. Applicants are to ensure that copies of the application forms are posted early enough to be received before the deadline for submission as forms received after the deadline will not be processed.

(b)    No additional documents will be accepted after submission of completed application forms.    Applicants are to note that only photocopies of certificates or result slips (not returnable) should accompany completed forms. Original certificates/result slips of applicants offered admission will be inspected before registration.

A change of programme after the submission of application form would NOT be entertained.

INVITATION TO TENDER

NATIONAL COMPETITIVE TENDERING

1. The University of Cape Coast intends to apply part of its Budgetary Allocation of Funds for payments under the following contracts.

2. The University of Cape Coast invites sealed Tenders from eligible contractors for the above works. Tendering will be conducted through the National Competitive Tendering (NCT) procedures specified in the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as Amended and the Guidelines of the Public Procurement Authority of the Republic of Ghana.

3. Interested eligible Tenderers may obtain further information from The Procurement Office, University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, and inspect the bidding document at the address and location given from Monday-Friday, 9.00 am to 4.00 pm local time each day.

 

4. A complete set of Tender documents in English may be purchased by interested Tenderers on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon the payment of a non-refundable fee of GH¢300.00 for each document. The method of payment will be by cash, or bank draft to University of Cape Coast. The document will be obtained personally. 

 

5. Tenders must be deposited in the Tender Box located at the Procurement Office, New Central Administration Building, New Site, at or before 11:00am, on Tuesday, 26th April, 2022.

6. Tenders shall be valid for a period of 90 days after the deadline for Tender submission. All tenders must be accompanied by a Tender Security of not less than two percent (2%) of the Tender Price from a reputable Bank. Late Tenders will be rejected. Tenders will be opened in the presence of Tenderers’ representatives who choose to attend in nose masks at the Academic Board Chamber located at the Top Floor of the New Administration Building, University of Cape Coast and at the time specified above.

UCC cuts sod for toilet facility for Amamoma

A sod has been cut for the construction of an ultra-modern toilet facility for the people of Amamoma, a community around the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

To be financed by UCC, the 16-seater facility is expected to be ready for inauguration and use before the end of the year.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, who performed the sod-cutting, said the gesture formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the University. She said the University would do its level best to engage the youth of the community in skillful productive ventures to enable them contribute towards the development of the nation.

Prof. Boohene, however, pleaded with the people to develop a good maintenance culture, make good use of the facility once it was completed.

For his part, the Ebusuapanyin of the Amamoma community, Opanyin Francis Kwaku Adu, expressed gratitude to the University Management and promised to provide the needed support for the successful completion of the project.

The Registrar, Mr. Jeff Teye Emmanuel Onyame; the Director, Directorate of Consular and General Services, Mrs. Alberta Graham and the Director, Directorate of Public Affairs, Major (Rtd) Kofi Baah Bentum, among others, were present at the brief ceremony.

Pro VC breaks ground for construction of ultra-modern office complex for Institutional Affiliation Office and School of Educational Development and Outreach

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Cape Coast, Prof. (Mrs.) Rosemond Boohene, has cut sod for the construction of a three-storey office complex for the Institutional Affiliation Office and the School of Educational Development and Outreach.

The facility, to be sited at Akotokyir, one of the communities surrounding the University, is expected to be completed in eighteen (18) months.

Being constructed by Antartic Construction Limited, the project is anticipated to resolve the office space problems facing both the Institutional Affiliation Office and the School of Educational Development and Outreach.

While urging the construction firm to complete the project on time, Prof. Boohene also advised the beneficiary institutions to map out strategies to use the facility to generate funds for the University.

On his part, the Director of the Directorate of Physical Development and Estate Management (DPDEM), Mr. Philip Ntim, assured the Pro Vice-Chancellor that his outfit would ensure the project was completed on schedule.

The Registrar, Mr. Jeff Teye Emmanuel Onyame, as well as hordes of both Assistant and Senior Assistant Registrars graced the short ceremony.

 Some representatives of Antartic Construction Limited were also present.

The Design Thinking and Innovation Hub (D-Hub) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor in collaboration with Kosmos Innovation Centre presents the KIC Agritech Challenge Classic.

The AgriTech Challenge Classic is a 7-month annual training program aimed at developing the interest and building the mindset of students and young graduates to ultimately drive systemic change in Ghana’s agriculture sector. It provides the youth with the right exposure to the agriculture value chain and provides networking opportunity to build and grow viable solutions to Ghana’s key agricultural challenges.

School of Business Holds Maiden CEOs’ Engagement Series

The Chief Executive Officer of Weave Ghana Limited, Mr. Roni Chacko, has hailed young Ghanaian entrepreneurs who dare to startup their own businesses and employ others in the process.

He believes such individuals are charting the course of Ghana’s entrepreneurial future. Consequently, he is calling for encouragement and support for such businesspersons.

Mr. Chacko said this while speaking on the theme, “The life journey of an Entrepreneur: Weave Ghana Limited in Perspective” at a programme organized by the School of Business-UCC dubbed: ‘Chief Executive Officers’ (CEOs’) Engagement Series’.

The series provides a platform where CEOs from various institutions are invited to speak to students and faculty members to motivate and develop their entrepreneurial skills.

Mr. Chacko took the students through the operations of Weave Ghana Limited, producers and marketers of Darling Hair extensions.

Over the years, according to him, Weave Ghana had become one of the pioneers of the hair extension business in Ghana.

In September 2011, he said, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, the mother company of Weave Ghana entered into a partnership with the Darling Group, using the best capabilities within both groups through brand building and distribution to expand its reach.

Mr. Chacko told the students that assuming the right attitude was pre-requisite for employment at Weave Ghana and advised them to live beyond reproach in their endeavours to succeed in life.

To get promotion at Weave Ghana, he said, new employees were obliged to learn the nuts and bolts of the job, saying that academic certificates of new employees were not the conduit to secure enviable positions within the upper echelon of the company.

He mentioned the depreciation of the Cedi as a major challenge facing Weave Ghana Limited.

In his remarks, the Dean of the School of Business, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, said the engagement highlighted the requirements of key skills required in the curriculum of the School of Business.

He said leadership of the School was conscious of the need for the 21st century skills development for students to close the skills gap.

Prof. Gatsi, who quoted John Reed who asked Business School academics at an award ceremony in 1999 ‘Do you detach these students the skills that will serve then well in their careers?’, said that question remained critical as the School was doing its best to answer it with innovation and providing the environment to promote skills development for the students.

The Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Prof. Francis Eric Amuquandoh, in a brief remark, advised students that humility, good attitude and sacrifices were sine qua non of becoming an industry leader.

He advised students to take advantage of the internship opportunities offered by Weave Ghana Limited.

As part of the programme, the University of Cape Coast signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Weave Ghana Limited to accept one hundred (100) students from the School of Business on internship during long vacation.

UCC Holds Orientation for Newly Admitted PhD Students from Health Training Institutions

An orientation ceremony has been held for 55 newly-admitted students who are pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Population and Health at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). The orientation, which was held in Tamale, Kumasi and Accra, was attended by students comprising mostly Principals of Health Institutions (HTIs) across the country.

Speaking at the orientation ceremony in Accra, the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies,Prof. Sarah Dankwa, congratulated the students on their admission to UCC.  She noted that the University would provide them with quality academic service to excel in their studies, research and career. The Dean urged them to complement the aforesaid service by exhibiting commitment and dedication to their studies. “We expect you to be punctual to lectures and seminars as well as completing assignments your lecturers will give you” she urged them. Prof Darkwa explained that the School of Graduate Studies was responsible for coordinating graduate programmes, assigning supervisors to graduate students and recommending successful students for certification. She took the students through UCC’s Academic policies, regulations for graduate students, thesis proposal writing and APA referencing style, among others.

On his part, the Head of the Institutional Affiliation Office (IAO), Mr. Justice G. K. Agyenim Boateng, who addressed the students in Tamale, noted that their admission formed part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UCC and the Ministry of Health to build the capacities of staff of Health Training Institutions. In pursuit of this, Mr. Boateng said UCC was committed to training high calibre of staff for HTIs and professional health workers in health facilities to enhance health delivery in the country. Mr. Boateng informed the students that UCC would not compromise on its quality academic standard and, therefore, they should put in more efforts to complete their studies successfully. He indicated that even though, they were having lectures at designated centres, they would go through the same experience like their colleagues on UCC campus. “We are holding this orientation so you will fit perfectly well in the UCC system,” he added. The Head of IAO indicated his Office’s readiness to liaise with the appropriate academic and administrative offices to address their concerns.

On behalf of the University Librarian, Mr. Kwame Boohene, an Assistant Librarian, highlighted the services of the University Library and took them through the electronic library system of UCC.  He mentioned the resources available on the electronic library including academic books, research articles, journals among others which he noted would help them in their research. Mr. Boohene urged them to make good use of it since they can have access to it anywhere at any time.

The Principal of Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Ms. Shirley Issah, on behalf of the students, expressed their gratitude to the University for the opportunity given them to enroll as PHD students and also lauded the representatives of the University for taking time of their busy schedules to take them through the orientation.

Other resource persons for the orientation at the various centres were Head, Department of Population and Health; Senior Assistant Registrar at SGS, Mr. Eugene Hesse; and Senior Assistant Registrar at the Directorate of Finance, Mr. John L. Yen.

UCC: Pro Vice-Chancellor cuts sod for construction of Washing Bay

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rosemond Boohene, has cut sod for the construction of a washing bay for the Transport Section.

The project, funded by Donewell Insurance Company (DIC), will be sited at the precincts of the Transport Section.

At a short ceremony to break the ground, Prof. Boohene said DIC was a key stakeholder to support the University.

She used the occasion to call on the insurance company to assist other units such as the Students’ Finance Support Office (STuFSO) and the Design Thinking and Innovation Hub (D-Hub).

The Pro-Vice Chancellor urged the constructor to ensure the project was completed on time.

For his part, the Head of Agency Business Unit at Donewell Insurance Company, Mr. Felix O. Adane, in a short remark, said the gesture would further deepen the existing partnership between DIC and the University.

Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Registrar, Mr. Jeff Teye Emmanuel Onyame; the Director, Directorate of Consular and General Services, Mrs. Alberta Graham; the Director of Public Affairs, Major (Rtd) Kofi Baah Bentum, among others.

The project is estimated to be completed within a space of three (3) to six (6) months.

Vice-Chancellor, UCC expresses commitment to nurture young entrepreneurs

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has reiterated his commitment to help nurture young entrepreneurs with the launch of the Design Thinking and Innovation Hub (D-Hub) at the University.

He said the Hub would serve as an experiential learning centre for students, interns, researchers, businesses, as well as industries.

In view of this, the Vice-Chancellor said a career advisory desk would be set-up for participants, especially students, to seek help on projects, funding and preparation of curriculum vitae amongst others.

Prof. Boampong expressed this commitment when he joined the Chancellor of the University, Sir (Dr.) Sam Jonah and the Chairman of the University Council, Prof Obeng Mireku, to launch D-Hub on Tuesday April 5, 2022.

D-Hub, a brainchild of the Office the Vice-Chancellor, seeks to develop change agents in its community, stimulate the establishment and growth of start-up firms and other businesses.

Prof. Boampong disclosed that a lot of research outputs were gathering dust on shelves, hence the establishment of the Hub.

He said the ultimate aim was to harness ideas of students and grow them into viable businesses through entrepreneurship, innovation and continuous improvement.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that UCC had strategically partnered with the University at Buffalo, USA, to design and implement approved credit bearing and non-credit bearing micro credentials.

‘Micro credentials may be awarded to participants to confirm professional competencies acquired’ he added.

‘Micro credentials’, according to Prof. Boampong, ‘will be issued for learning opportunities that take less time than degree and certificate programmes.’

He stressed that the Hub would work closely with students, academics and professional staff through proposal submissions. Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor pointed out that workshops would be frequently organized to enable participants to interact with experts.

As part of the launch of the D-Hub, there were solidarity messages from co-operative institutions who generally pledged their unwavering support for the entrepreneurial agenda of the University.

DAPQA shares Best Practices with Quality Assurance Unit of GIMPA

The Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA), University of Cape Coast has shared best

practices on quality assurance with staff of the Quality Assurance Unit from Ghana Institute of

Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

In his welcome remarks at an interaction with the officials from GIMPA, the Director of

DAPQA, Prof. Emmanuel Kofi Gyimah, noted that UCC was noted for its quality academic

standards in Ghana and Africa. He indicated that the current ranking of UCC as the number

one in Ghana, West Africa and fourth in Africa, as well as the number one in research

influence globally was a reflection of the total quality assurance measures the University had

adopted.

 “Total quality assurance permeates every aspect of the University’s activities, thus,

teaching, learning, research, governance and administrative services" he added.

Prof. Gyimah said the visit would go a long way to establish a cordial relationship between

the two institutions to enhance total quality assurance activities.

On his part, the Head of Quality Assurance Unit of GIMPA, Dr. Lord Mawuko-Yevugah,

thanked DAPQA for the warm reception. He explained that the visit was to familiarise

themselves with the operations of DAPQA at UCC and learn best practices that would help to

strengthen quality assurance at GIMPA.

“We are here to explore ways of making our unit more vibrant and recognised locally and internationally,” he stated.

He pointed out that UCC and GIMPA shared a lot in common and was hopeful that the interactive session would open

other avenues to exchange knowledge and adopt best practices.

Presenting on quality assurance at UCC, a Research Fellow at DAPQA, Dr. Ishmael Kwabla

Hlovor, explained that UCC had adopted a total quality management approach and considered

quality as “fit for purpose”. He indicated that at the core of UCC’s total quality management

was people’s programme and place. “People refers to internal and external stakeholders in

quality management process. Programmes represent the processes, procedures activities

within the institution including curricular design, teaching and learning, governance systems,

leadership and management functions, student support services and student admissions. Place

stands for space and facilities,” he explained.

Touching on the mandate of DAPQA, Dr. Hlovor said the Directorate was responsible

for ensuring that performance standards set for all aspects of the University’s activities were

appropriate and relevant. He said the Directorate also monitored and evaluated the

University’s strategic plan; monitored quality management activities in all implementation

Units and periodically updated the Vice-Chancellor on the overall quality status of the

University. Another mandate, he mentioned, was providing advice and guidance to

implementation units on the execution of quality management activities among others.

Dr. Hlovor concluded his presentation by indicating that the Directorate played a key

role in quality monitoring and evaluation, however, the Colleges, Faculties, Schools,

Departments and other units of the University collectively spearheaded quality standards and

improvements.

Present at the interaction session were heads of unit, research fellows and administrative staff DAPQA.
