2. The University of Cape Coast invites sealed Tenders from eligible suppliers/contractors for supply of the above goods. Tendering will be conducted through the National Competitive Tendering (NCT) procedures specified in the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) as Amended and the Guidelines of the Public Procurement Authority of the Republic of Ghana.

 

3. Interested eligible Tenderers may obtain further information from The Procurement Office, University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, and inspect the bidding document at the address and location given from 19th November, 2021 Monday-Friday, 9.00 am to 4.00 pm local time each day.

4. A complete set of Tender documents in English may be purchased by interested Tenderers on the submission of a written application to the address below and upon the payment of a non-refundable fee of GH¢200.00 for all documents. The method of payment will be by cash, or bank draft to University of Cape Coast. The document will be obtained personally.

5. Tenders must be deposited in the Tender Box located at the Procurement Office, New Central Administration Building, New Site, on or before 11:00am, on Thursday, 9th December, 2021 for A, B, C, D, E and Friday 10th December, 2021 for F, G, H, I, J.

6. Tenders shall be valid for a period of 90 days after the deadline for Tender submission. All tenders must be accompanied by a Tender Security of not less than the respective amounts indicated above from a reputable Bank. Late Tenders will be rejected. Tenders will be opened in the presence of Tenderers’ representatives who choose to attend in nose masks at the Academic Board Chamber located at the Top Floor of the New Administration Building, University of Cape Coast and at the time specified above.

7. All tenders must be accompanied by:

Curriculum Review Workshop With Colleges in the University of Cape Coast

The Curriculum Review Team met and interacted with the Provost, Deans, Directors and Heads of Department of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies. The workshop took place at the Elizabeth Adabbor conference room of the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast.

The team was mandated by the Vice-Chancellor to rid the curriculum of the University of repeated courses and ensure it is infused with twenty first century skills and the core values of the University. The team had earlier met the other Colleges of the University on the same mission.

Speaking at the workshop, the Chairman of the Curriculum Review Team Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis (Provost, College of Education Studies) implored participants to ensure programmes and courses are packaged and presented in way that makes graduates from the University attractive to employers.

On his part, the Provost of College of Humanities and Legal Studies, who chaired the function, thanked faculty members of the College for showing up in their numbers and urged them to fully implement knowledge acquired to ensure programmes and courses in the College enhance students’ entrepreneurial skills and also help them gain a competitive urge on the job market.

CEGRAD Launches Advisory Board

The Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD) under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellor has held a launch of an Advisory Board. The primary function of the advisory board is to give strategic directions to the Centre. Other functions include the promotion and supervision of research activities in the Centre, giving out policy directions, support of various stakeholders and tasks in collaboration and partnership with other organisations and agencies as well as giving out general guidelines and directions for the operations of the Centre.

The Chairman of the Advisory Board, Prof. Francis Eric Amuquandoh, Provost of College of Humanities and Legal Studies (CHLS) in his acceptance speech expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve CEGRAD and the University of Cape Coast in this manner. He also acknowledged the importance of gender issues in light of university rankings. He promised that he and his team will work hard to promote gender-related research, provide policy direction, establish collaboration and partnership at national and international levels and strengthen the capacity of CEGRAD to undertake their day to day operations.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong in his speech charged the members of the advisory board to work as a team to deliver their mandate. He entreated them to brace themselves to making CEGRAD attain the enviable status of leading quality gender research and documentation centre.

Delegation from National Service Secretariat pays courtesy call on Vice-Chancellor

A delegation from the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in Cape Coast led by the Central

Reginal Coordinator, Mrs. Jennifer Appiah Bempah, has paid a courtesy call on Management of

the University of Cape Coast.

The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce themselves to University Management and

cement the relationship between the University and NSS. In her remarks, Mrs. Jennifer Appiah

Bempah, made a plea to the Vice-Chancellor for an office space on campus for the NSS

Secretariat to help facilitate their work for the University.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong on his part, commended them for paying

a courtesy call on Management and assured the delegation of the support of the University to

National Service Persons who have been deployed to the University. He assured them that the

Directorate of Human Resource is ready to address and assist service personnel with any issues

or challenges they may encounter.

School of Graduate Studies New Building Complex to be Operational by End of 2021

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong has announced that the newly-constructed School of Graduate Studies Complex will become operational by the end of 2021.

Prof. Boampong stated that the new complex has state-of-the-art facilities that would help enhance postgraduate work within the University. He added that the structure represents one of the largest investments in postgraduate education in the University in recent times.

The Vice-Chancellor made the announcement when he delivered his address at the 11th Session of the 53rd Congregation at the University of Cape Coast held for the postgraduate students of the School of Graduate Studies.

A total of 2,416 graduating students from the School of Graduate Studies were awarded degrees at the ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the School of Graduate Studies had put in place a system that would allow electronic submission of thesis/dissertation instead of hardbound copies. This he noted would bring major improvement in the assessment process. He added that “As part of the preparation towards implementation of the system, staff and students have already been taken through some training”.        

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University also entered into a collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to run Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies (PGDSS) programme for cadet officers. He indicated that 100 graduates of the pioneer class were among the graduates of the 11th session of the 53rd Congregation.

Making some projections on graduate students’ intake, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the number of masters and PhD graduates would see significant increases in the coming years. He said the increase in numbers was an opportunity, which would work to the advantage of the University. “In line with our strategic plan, the University of Cape Coast will continue to put in place the required resources and strategies to ensure quality postgraduate education in all the areas of our mandate as a university,” he assured. 

Prof. Boampong commended the Brew Butler family for helping to establish a Research Fund in 2015, and expressed gratitude to the family for the effort to continue supporting postgraduate students in their research work. He said the fund had been a blessing to the School of Graduate Studies and the entire graduate student body. “I am happy to report that the number of beneficiaries has increased from 27 to 74 since disbursement started in 2017 with the highest awardee receiving an appreciable amount of GH¢5,500.00 in two tranches and the lowest receiving GH¢2,300.00” he disclosed.

The Vice-Chancellor asserted that the University was still grappling with inadequate residential facilities, office accommodation and lecture theatres.  He used the opportunity to appeal to the general public to partner with the University to address this challenge.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the members and staff of the School of Graduate Studies, the Board of the School and Academic Board for the tireless efforts in training higher caliber postgraduate students.

 

 

 

CEGRAD marks International Day of The Girl Child with the University Primary School

The Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD), University of Cape Coast, has held a special programme for the University Primary School pupils to mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2021. The theme of the event was “My Voice - Our Equal Future” with a sub theme “Digital Generation – Our Generation”.

 

The International Day of the Girl Child was initiated by United Nations in 2011. This year CEGRAD decided to include it in their list of events to promote the rights of girls and bridging the digital divide. According to Dr. Georgina Yaa OduroOduro, Director of CEGRAD, they decided to introduce the concepts of gender equality to the school children because the schools act as a microcosmos of the society.

Dr. Georgina Yaa Oduro, in her speech stated that the University Basic School serves as a pacesetter and role model in bridging the gender gap not only in digital technology but also in leadership, STEM subjects and sports.

 

During the event CEGRAD engaged the children in discussions about gender roles and equal opportunities for boys and girls in school and in the society at large.

CEGRAD Holds Training Workshop For Equality Officers Trainers of Trainees

The Centre for Gender Research, Advocacy and Documentation (CEGRAD)  in collaboration with Freie Universität Berlin has held a Workshop at the University of Cape Coast For  Equality Officers Trainers of Trainees. The theme of the training was Equal Opportunities in Higher Education: Partnership for Institutional Change (EQUIP). The workshop was to give participants a concrete introduction to their roles as gender equality officers.

 

The Train the Trainer Workshop was a follow up on the workshop on implementing gender equality in higher education held in June 2021. While the first workshop served as an introduction to the topic as a broad engagement with several facets of gender equality work, this workshop highlighted specific points of a gender equality officers work.

 

The aim of the workshop was to prepare the participants for both their roles as gender equality officers at UCC and as trainers/facilitators for future gender equality officers at UCC and other universities in Ghana and Central Africa.

 

Dr. Georgina Yaa Oduro, Director of CEGRAD, in her welcome address explained that CEGRAD has secured a four-year funding from DAAD-DIES Germany to undertake a project on institutionalizing equal opportunity practices at the University of Cape Coast. She further explained that, the Partnership, housed by CEGRAD but led by Prof. Dr. Guelay Caglar of FUB and Prof. Akua Opokua Britwum of UCC, has an overall goal of establishing and improving institutional structures and processes that promote equal opportunities in higher education in the University of Cape Coast.

 

UCC Celebrates World Food Day

The maiden Farmer’s Market event kicked started the UCC`s World Food Day celebration. The World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on 16th of October to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Program, the World Health Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

A distinguishably recognized theme has been the pull for World Food Day celebrations across the globe. The World Food Day theme for 2014 was Family Farming: Feeding the world, caring for the earth. In 2015, Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty.

In Ghana, World Food Day is celebrated to help remind and prompt individuals the need to eat healthy and properly. It was celebrated this year in the Central Region and it was graced with the presence of dignitaries including the Regional Director of Agriculture.

In his address, the Regional Director of Agriculture explained the importance of the day, saying that, the aim of the World Food Day is to promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger for the need to ensure healthy diet for all and to inspire actions to help, prevent, detect and manage food- borne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic priorities, market access, tourism and sustainable development. He further elaborated that production and consumption of safe food has a long-term benefit for people in the planet and economy recognizing the systematic connection between the health of people, animals, plant and the environment. The Regional Director of Agriculture also reminded that food safety is a shared responsibility between the government, producers and consumers.

Mr. Samuel Annan, President of the Central Regional Apex Association praised the efforts of the farmers and emphazised their importance to the society as the people who put food on our tables to eat. He revealed that plans have been made to spread information on Farmers’ Market in all the districts within Central Region and also the whole of West Africa and Africa entirely.

Dr. Selorm, Coordinator of the Farmers Market in his address stated that, as far as UCC, MOFA and the Central Region Apex Association are concerned, consumers are going to get fresh produce straight from the farmers for fresh and reliable food source. He hinted that, plans are already being set to establish a platform where farmers would be able to sell their produce to consumers directly.

Prof. De- Graft Acquaah stood in the place of the Vice- Chancellor of the University and the Provost of the College of Agriculture to officially open the ceremony of the World Food Market.
