Job Description
· Develop, analyse and implement policies relating to resources and services for the University Scholarly Communications Unit.
· Coordinate the management of the University Journals.
· Digital Archiving of the University Journals and other related Research outputs.
· Develop and manage Online Journal Management Systems for the University.
· Provide technical support such as requisition of ISBN, ISSN, DOI, Copyright. Licensing, Intellectual Property and Open Access Publishing.
· Promote and market UCC Journals and related research outputs.
· Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Scholarly Communications including Editors of UCC Journals, Researchers, Librarians, Publishers and Policy makers etc.
· Provide consultation expertise and training for UCC staff on relevant topics related to scholarly publishing.
· Develop equitable access and sustainable publishing models for the University.

The Centre for Teaching Support successfully organized a two (2) day training workshop for the Academic Staff of Forensic Sciences at the Ridge Royal Hotel, Cape Coast.
The broad objective of the training was to enlighten the Academic staff on Contemporary Methods of Lesson delivery, Assessment and Preparation of Course Outline. Prof. George K. T Oduro, Dr. Godwin Aboagye and Dr. Kofi Acheaw Owusu served as facilitators.
The Centre for Teaching Support with the mandate of organizing training workshops for academic staff in higher educational institutions organized a two (2) day training program for Staff of Wisconsin University at the Wisconsin International University College, in Accra.
The objective was to help newly recruited staff acquire knowledge, skills and best practices of assessing students. It was also to improve the professional development of the teaching staff as the profession demands. Dr. Godwin Aboagye and Dr. Eric Anane facilitated the workshop.

2. The University of Cape Coast invites sealed Tenders from eligible suppliers/contractors for supply of the above goods. The School of Graduate Studies (SGS), in collaboration with the Sam Jonah Library has held a training program for first year postgraduate students to help them access e-resource materials and database in the University library.
The students were introduced to the subscription-based journals to Mendeley software to help them to write their thesis and organize their references. They were also introduced to running their theses through the Turnitin software to avoid plagiarism. The resource person, Mr. Isaac Nketsiah, an Assistant Research Fellow at the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC), explained that postgraduate students’ work is the core drive for most institutions’ research. “When they go through this training and are equipped with the skillsets to assess good data, they will be able to come out with good publications,” he said.
He noted that with the University’s current subscription to the Times Higher Education Rankings, postgraduate students are to be equipped with skills of accessing the accurate resources to come up with innovative findings to sustain the institution’s position in the rankings.
He also added that since the training is an annual program, it is going to refine postgraduate students with the skillsets to help maintain the institutions visibility on global educational rankings. The software is available to all students.
The program was spearheaded by the University Librarian, Dr. Mac Anthony Cobblah and Prof. Sarah Darkwah, the Dean of School of Graduate Studies. The other resource persons were Mr. Osman Imoro, Mr. Emmanuel Manu Agyapong, Mr. Paul Nunekpeku and Mr. Kwasi Opuni Karikari.
The Management of the University of Cape Coast convened a 3-day meeting at Peduase in the Eastern Region of Ghana with members of Strategic Planning Committees from 29th August 1st September, 2021 to deliberate on the University’s long-term strategy for internationalisation and global impact. The meeting also aimed among others, at outlining modalities to strengthen its research capacity and deliver high quality training of students through institutional accreditation and professional education, enhance governance and management through monitoring and evaluation, and promote efficiency of procurement mechanisms within the university. These efforts are expected to enable the university focus on global good practices for higher education, and to position UCC as an Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) Host Institution with the flexibility to pursue projects, academic partnerships and research activities focused on achieving Institutional Impact Milestones based upon need and priority.
In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, while acknowledging that most of these initiatives are already ongoing in the University, reaffirmed that, the objective of the workshop was to facilitate the processes of review of existing policies and practices and to develop new ones, where necessary to position the University to attain international benchmarking in higher education in Africa.
In attendance was the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) Impact Project Manager at the Association of African Universities (AAU), Dr Sylvia Mkandawire. Addressing participants at the meeting, Dr. Mkandawire indicated that ACECoR was performing well among the ACE projects and commended the University for the supporting the project.
Also in attendance was the National Focal Officer for the ACEs at the Ghana Tertiary Education Council (GTEC), Mr Edmund Aalandong. Dr. Mkandawire and Mr. Aalandong expressed optimism and commended the University of Cape Coast and ACECoR for the high-level of commitment to the sustenance of the project and academic excellence.
The workshop was attended by the VC, Pro-VC, Registrar, Director of Finance, Rep of the Director of Internal Audit, Provosts of all 5 Colleges, Director of Directorate of Research Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC), Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE), Director of ACECoR, other Directors, Head of Departments and Administrators of the University, AAU and GTEC.
The event coincided with Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2022, which ranked UCC as the number one university in Ghana and West Africa, number one in research influence globally and among the first five top Universities in Africa
