History:
The School of Physical Sciences is one of the schools under the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, University of Cape Coast. It was carved out of the then Faculty of Science in the 2006/2007 academic year.

Physical Structures and Virtual Infrastructure
The School of Physical Sciences has acquired and installed twenty (20) high-speed computers worth One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS¢100,000.00) to fully operationalize the newly established Embedded Systems and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to supports undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning.
The School has successfully completed the creation of the Department of Water and Sanitation out of the existing Chemistry Department, following an approval by the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The full-fledged department is expected to start running its own undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from the first semester of 2019/2020 academic year.
The School has acquired a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and an Ultra-Pure Laboratory Water System to help improve practical teaching and learning.
The School has also initiated the procurement process of twenty-five (25) desk-top computers to augment the number of computers in the Computer Science Laboratory.
International Partnerships and Industry Linkage
The School is collaborating with Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) And International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to design academic programmes that are relevant to the development of the human capital of the country and the continent at large.
The School has accepted a proposal from Professor Bimal Sinha, Founder of Statistics Graduate Programme, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), USA to host and co-organise the 7th African International Conference (AIC) on Statistics. The 4-day conference is scheduled from 25th – 28th May, 2020.
The School of Physical Sciences through the collaborative support of the University of Akron, U.S.A, has initiated a process to establish an engineering programme in the University of Cape Coast.
The School also hosted a Fulbright Scholar from the Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A in the academic year under review.
Future Plans
To build a strong school with state-of-the-art scientific equipment to promote postgraduate research.
To move into artificial intelligence and robotics.
To undertake national and international research projects to enhance the visibility of the School, College and the University of Cape Coast.
To increase postgraduate students enrolment by 20 percent in the next academic year.

About College/Faculty/Department:
The School of Physical Sciences has for the past twelve (12) years worked towards improving on scholarship in terms of assisting staff and students to build their capacities to increase their research output. This motive cuts across the seven (7) academic Departments in the School.
Due to increased demand for the science-based programmes in Ghana and other countries, the School is determined to introduce academic programmes designed to instill the relevant knowledge and skills in the students so that they are able to make impactful contributions to society. The School of Physical Sciences has conducive teaching and learning environment, excellent Staff/Student relationship as well as qualified, dedicated and experienced teaching and non-teaching staff.
The School promotes staff training, scholarship as well as staff attendance to conferences and workshops. In the year under review, there has been an increase in the number of staff and student population in the School. In addition, a substantial number of academic staff, have earned various promotions from lectureship positions to senior lectureship and senior lectureship to professorial levels.
Academic Programmes
The School of Physical Sciences consists of seven (7) academic Departments with fifteen (15) undergraduate and four (4) postgraduate programmes of study. The Departments comprise the Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics, Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Department of Laboratory Technology and Department of Water and Sanitation and. There are also three specialized units, namely the Glassblowing Unit, Electronics Unit and Laser and Fibre Optic Centre (LAFOC) as a Research Unit.
