The Department of Laboratory Technology has held stakeholders meeting to solicit views on its proposed Master’s programme in Safety and Emergency Response.

The consultative meeting, held at the Department of Physics Seminar Room served as a platform for stakeholders to present their inputs, contributions and concerns in order to shape the programme to achieve its objective of training competent individuals to handle emergencies.

The University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences (UCCSMS) has hosted and won the Eighth Inter-Medical Schools Public Speaking Competition.

This is the fifth time UCCSMS is winning the competition since its inception eight years ago.

The theme for the Eighth Competition was “Child Sexual Abuse in Ghana: The Extent of the Problem, Consequence and Proposed Solutions”.

Participating Universities

Chief Invigilators from the University have left campus to supervise Access Course examinations for Post Nurse Assistance Clinical (NAC) and Nurse Assistance Preventive (NAP) in four Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges (NMTC) in the country.

The examinations would be held from Monday, November 4 to Wednesday November 7, 2018, at the Cape Coast NMTC, Atibie NMTC in the Eastern Region, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital NMTC, Kumasi and Tamale Teaching Hospital NMTC, Tamale.  

A Professor of Development Economics at the School for Development Studies, Prof. John Victor Mensah, has decried the incessant politicisation of the country’s industrialisation by succesive governments.

Analysing the trend of performance of the industrial sector under various governments from the era of independence to date, Prof. Mensah described Ghana’s industrialisation as largely rhetoric.

Prof. Mensah made these statements when he delivered his Inaugural Lecture on the topic “Ghana’s Industrialisation-Rhetoric or Reality?”

The Faculty of Arts has celebrated its brilliant and hardworking students at the maiden Dean’s Award Ceremony.

The efforts of these students who were from level 200 to level 400 with Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate (CGPA) of 3.6 and above were acknowledged with presentation of certificates.  In all, 57 students were presented with awards including 27 for level 200, 13 for level 300, and 17 for level 400.

Prudential Bank Limited has presented 6 Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy instruments valued at GH ¢ 210, 000 to the Department of Optometry at a short ceremony on campus.

The Slit-lamp Biomicroscopy which is used to examine the anterior and posterior part of the eyes would facilitate teaching, learning, research and extension services of the Department.

The Department of Hospitality and Tourism has launched its 10th Anniversary at a ceremony at the Main Auditorium.

Speaking at the function, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ziblim Barri Iddi, congratulated the Department on achieving such a milestone.  He noted that tourism played a key role in contributing towards the development of Ghana’s economy. “Given the necessary support, tourism can open more opportunities for employment, foreign exchange and generally increase in people’s incomes through the value chain” he noted.

The Faculty of Law has held the Sixth Roll Call Ceremony for students admitted to pursue Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme at the University for the 2018/2019 academic year.

A total of 101 students were inducted into the Faculty of Law at the ceremony. A Justice of the High Court, Mrs. Olivia Obeng-Owusu administered the oath to the students.

An Alumnus of the University of Cape Coast, Mr. Steven Quartelai has donated a stove and a set of books to the Department of Hospitality And Tourism Management. 

Mr. Quartelai, who graduated from the University in the year 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism made the presentation through Prof. Ishmael Mensah, the Ghanaian Director of the Confucius Institute and also a lecturer at the Department.
