What this page is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between one page and the next. Some are ours. Some belong to other companies whose code runs on our pages.

Below is the full list: every cookie this site sets, who sets it, what it is for, how long it stays, and which category it falls into. It is generated from the same list the site itself is built against, so it cannot quietly fall out of date while the site changes. If you find something storing data that is not named here, please tell us — the contact details are at the end.

Your choices, honestly stated

Nothing but the strictly necessary cookies is set until you agree to it. On your first visit the analytics tags are not merely switched off — they are not in the page at all, so nothing is requested from Google or Microsoft before you answer. Refusing is one click on the banner, in the same place and the same size as accepting.

You can change your answer whenever you like: Cookie Settings, at the bottom of every page. Refusing a category you had previously accepted also deletes the cookies it had already set — the ones we are able to delete. The entries above marked as set on clarity.ms belong to Microsoft's own domain rather than ours, so refusing stops them being renewed but cannot remove one already on your device; your browser's settings can.

You can also block or delete any of these from your browser's own settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across every site that uses it with Google's opt-out browser add-on. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies will stop forms and sign-in from working; blocking the rest costs you nothing.

What we do not do

• We do not use advertising or re-targeting cookies. Nothing on this site follows you around the web to sell you something.
• We do not sell, rent or trade what these cookies collect.
• We do not use cookies to build a profile of you as an individual. The analytics we look at are counts and patterns, not people.

The cookies

Strictly necessary

These make the site work at all. Without them you could not stay signed in or submit a form, so they are set whether or not you accept anything else. None of them is used to follow you to other websites.

Analytics

These tell us which pages people read, how they arrived, and where they give up, and we use that to decide what to fix. They are not used to advertise to you, and we do not sell what they collect.

Behaviour analytics

Set only while the site’s heatmap feature is switched on, which it is not by default. It records anonymised interaction — where on a page people click, how far they scroll — to show us which parts of a page are being missed.

Embedded media

Set by the video services we embed, and only on the pages that carry one of their videos. We do not control what they store or for how long.

Other companies our pages contact

Not everything a page loads leaves a cookie behind. Some of it simply causes your browser to make a request to another company, which tells them your IP address and which page you were reading. That is worth knowing about too, so here is the whole list:

• www.googletagmanager.com — Loads Google Analytics. Stores cookies, listed above.
• www.google-analytics.com — Receives the analytics measurements themselves. Stores nothing on your device.
• www.clarity.ms — Loads Microsoft Clarity, when the heatmap feature is switched on. Stores cookies, listed above.
• fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com — Serve the typeface the site is set in. They store nothing on your device, but loading a font tells Google your IP address and which page asked for it. Stores nothing on your device.
• www.youtube-nocookie.com — Embedded YouTube videos, on the pages that carry one. Stores cookies, listed above.
• player.vimeo.com — Embedded Vimeo videos, on the pages that carry one. Stores cookies, listed above.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, and refuse new ones. The setting is usually under Privacy, and your browser's own help pages explain it better than we can, because the wording changes between versions.

Two things to expect if you do. Deleting the strictly necessary cookies signs you out and empties any form you were part-way through. And refusing cookies entirely does not stop the requests listed under Other companies our pages contact — those happen when the page loads, whether or not anything is stored afterwards.

Changes to this policy

This list is maintained alongside the site's own code, so a change to what the site loads is meant to arrive together with a change here. When it does, the date at the top moves. We do not revise this page quietly.
