Ask about your data

Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or for it to be deleted

What you can ask for

Under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) you may ask what personal data this university holds about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You do not need an account here, you do not need to give a reason, and it does not cost anything.

You can use the form below, or simply write to dataprotection@ucc.edu.gh. Both reach the same office and both count equally; the form exists so that nothing is forgotten and so that you get a reference number.

What happens next

  1. You fill in the form. We email the address you give to check it is yours.
  2. You click the link in that email. Only then is your request passed to the Data Protection Office.
  3. The office replies within 30 days, counted from the day you confirm.

That second step is not a formality. Without it, anybody could use this page to have a stranger's data deleted, which would be a worse failure than the one this page exists to fix.

The name we are likely to hold your records under, if it differs from the one you use day to day.

We send the confirmation link here, and we reply here. Use an address you can read today — not a university address you have lost access to.

For example: a mailing list you were added to, a form you filled in, a student or staff number, or the page your name appears on. Leave it blank if you do not know — “you have my email address from somewhere” is a complete request.

What you type here is used to answer this request and nothing else. An unconfirmed request is deleted on its own. Our privacy policy explains what we do with the rest.

If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you may complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana, which supervises this university as a registered data controller.
