Introduction to Basic Organic Chemistry II

This course is a continuation of CHE 105A. The basic ideas on nomenclature, structure, physical properties, synthesis and chemical properties of the aliphatic hydrocarbons (alkanes, alkenes, alkyes) will be treated. The course will also include the treatment of the structure of benzene including simple treatment of the concept of resonance and aromaticity, nomenclature of benzene and synthesis of simple derivatives of benzene with specific orientation, ortho-, para- and meta-directors.

Plant Physiology

Department of English

Vision statement: 
To make the Department a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research in English language and Literature- in- English.
Mission statement: 
To produce teachers, lecturers and researchers in the area of English and also to train English language  and Anglophone specialists who can be useful assets to the world of industry, especially in areas like the Media, Banking, Commercial Practices, Professional Secretariat posts, etc.
History: 
The Department of English is in the Faculty of Arts which is within the College of Humanities and Legal Studies (CHLS) of the University of Cape Coast. The Department offers a B. A. (English) programme and six post graduate programmes, namely: M.A English Language (Sandwich), M.A Literature-in-English (Sandwich), M.Phil English Language, M.Phil Literature-in-English and PhD English Language PhD Literature-in-English. The M.A. (Sandwich) programme caters for workers and professionals who may not have the opportunity to obtain a graduate degree as full-time students. Further, the Department offers a One-Year Proficiency Programme for Francophone students who wish to upgrade their English language proficiency with a view to studying or working in an English-speaking country.

Advanced Music Composition

This course aims at relating advanced music theory to the compositional craft. Students will be assisted to apply their knowledge in a wide range of styles,

both Western, African and popular idioms, and to develop their personal compositional language, resulting in a larger original works.

Advanced Production Participation practical

The course provides students the opportunity to practice their knowledge of dance production theory. It also provides opportunities for the production of extended dance pieces with students taking on roles as directors, stage managers, make-up technicians etc.

The course examines the African-American dance heritage against the background of the economic and social situation in America. It also assesses the impact of African dance culture on African-American dance heritage.
