The MPhil programme is for a two-year period: the first year is for course work and second year for research and preparation of thesis and internship.During the research period each student will be expected to give a seminar(s). Also each student is required to complete a minimum of 600 supervised clock hours in doing their internship. Thesis must be submitted by date to be determined by the Department.

• To produce high calibre experts in Guidance and Counselling to lecture in tertiary institutions and contribute to the continuous and sustainable growth and development of the country.
• To provide students with the skills of research and critical thinking in understanding human behaviour and in meeting emerging challenges in the Ghanaian society.
• To impact students with appropriate expertise in the skills of counselling, developing and organising Guidance and Counselling programmes and centres for educational institutions.
• To develop in students the ability to extend Guidance and Counselling services to community and agency settings (hospitals, prisons, the armed forces, etc.).

The wide range of courses offered at the postgraduate levels equip graduates in Guidance and Counselling with professional knowledge and skills in Counselling to pursue career in diverse fields as Education, Civil/Public service, Health Services etc,

A candidate seeking admission into MA/MPhil degree programme MUST:

1. Have first degree with at least, second class lower division inany recognised institution in any of the following programmes: B.Ed. Social Science, B.Sc. Psychology and any B.Ed. programme.
2. Have Non-researched master’s degree with CGPA of 2.5 or better (top-up to MPhil).
3. iii. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Colleges/Faculties/Schools/ Institutes/Departments. These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and/or an interview.

The B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling programme will be seven semesters of course work and one semester of Off-Campus teaching and Practicum (The Practicum takes place during the long vacation after the third year).

The objectives of the programme are to produce graduates who will be able to:

1. Organise effective guidance programmes for clients,
2. Handle clients' problems,
3. Assist school and non-school administrators to manage problems of their staff, and
4. Teach in their areas of specialisation in pre-tertiary schools.

The wide range of courses offered at the undergraduate levels equip graduates in Guidance and Counselling with professional knowledge and skills in Counselling to pursue career in diverse fields us as Education, Civil/Public service, Health Services etc,

Applicants seeking admission into the Guidance and Counselling Programme must fulfill the following requirements by the University of Cape Coast.

A)    SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants must pass: i)    three core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies) with grade  C6 or better for WASSCE and /or  grade D or better for SSSCE and  ii)    three elective subjects from General Arts, Business, Science, Home Economics and Vocational and Technical backgrounds with a grade C6 or better for WASSCE and/or SSSCE with Grade D or better. 

B)    Mature Students  Applicants must be 25 years and above, and write and pass the Mature Entrance Examination in a Special Paper, General Paper and Aptitude Test organised by the University of Cape Coast.  

The Ph. D programme is for a three-year period and consists mainly of research, preparation of thesis and internship. During the research period each student will be expected to give seminars.

Admission into the PhD programme requires that applicants have any of the following qualifications: (a) A Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Guidance and Counselling or M.Ed/ M.A (with thesis) in Guidance and Counselling. (b) M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (c) M.Phil in Counselling Psychology (d) Submit an official transcript of academic record

Other Requirements: (e)  Submit, at least, two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer. (f)  Submit a pre-proposal of 3-5 pages on the intended area of study, including a bibliography (g) Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the Colleges/Faculties/Schools/ Institutes/Departments. These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and/or an interview.
