The Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has organised an event to mark Chinese Spring Festival to signify the New Year on the Chinese Calendar. The Spring Festival, known as Chinese New Year, in China starts on the 22rd day of the 12th Lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The festival lasts for 23 days, ending on the 15th day of the first lunar month in the following year on the Chinese calendar.

The 9th Microfinance Conference organized under the auspices of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies has opened at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). The two-day conference under the theme "The Future of Microfinance: Sustainability of Microfinance Institutions and Financial Inclusion" is being attended by players in the industry across the country". There will be presentation by various speakers from both industry and academia on various topics on Microfinance. In a speech delivered on his behalf by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K.T.

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Local Chapter of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has organized a five-hour clean-up exercise on campus. The exercise, which was undertaken in collaboration with the UCC Central Cadet Corps, Department of Environmental Science and the Environmental Health Section, was aimed at sensitizing members of the University community on the need to keep the environment clean.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.T Oduro, has assured students of colleges of education in the country that certificates awarded by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) are internationally recognized.

“No student can obtain UCC Certificate without meeting the minimum academic standards set by the Academic Board of the University,” he explained.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), under the auspices of the Welfare Section of the Directorate of Human Resource, has visited 15 selected retired members of staff in the Central Region, Greater Accra and Volta Regions.   

The initiative dubbed ‘Retirees Outreach Programme’ is aimed at reaching out to a number of retired staff in various regions of the country.

The retired staff members visited were in the Junior and Senior Staff, as well as Senior Members categories.

The Deputy Fund Manager of Skills Development Fund (SDF), Mr. Dunwell Eku, has said recent studies show that Ghanaian industries were performing poorly on the world market in terms of productivity and technology.

For example, he said, Ghana was not doing well regarding the cultivation and growing of tomatoes as compared to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

“Even growing of tomatoes, Ghana is not doing well in terms of yield per hectare between us and Burkina Faso,” Mr. Eku added.

The Centre for Coastal Management (CCM) under the School of Biological Sciences of the University of Cape Coast (UCC)  has launched an online database project called Fisheries and Coastal Management Database of Ghana (FishCoM Ghana) in Accra.

The primary goal of FishCoM Ghana, which is Supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is to offer an efficient and easy access to data (both published and unpublished) to aid the management of Ghana's fisheries and coastal resources.
