14 Nov, 2020 By louis Mensah

A week’s workshop has been held for staff of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The workshop was held to build the capacity of staff of the school.

Laying Solid Foundation for the School

The Provost of the College of Health and Allied Sciences, Prof. Martins Ekor, in his remarks asked staff present to take the activities of the School very seriously and also take pride as members who were laying the foundation and building the School of Pharmacy. He encouraged them to put in their best and come out with good strategies that would benefit the university. He promised that the office of the Provost was always available to provide the needed support to them.

On his part, the Dean of the School, Dr. Elvis Ofori Ameyaw, indicated “we will set up committees to help advance the vision of the School, we want to be visible locally and internationally. We want to attract high caliber of students and lecturers into the school of Pharmacy”.

“We will invite colleagues from the Directorate of Research Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC) to educate us more on research and also establish strong inter and intra faculty relations and collaborations”, he stated

Support

The Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Prof Sebastian Eliason, assured them of his school’s support saying “the School of Medical Sciences will continue to support you as we have already done by giving you two of our best lecturers to work with you.” He encouraged them to think positively and keep their eyes on the goal. Prof. Eliason advised the School of Pharmacy to include community based exposure and practice for their students as they planned their curriculum.

The Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery Dr. Nancy Innocentia Ebu Enyan, said the retreat should provide them the opportunity to reflect on their activities at this stage of their development as a school. She advised them to work together as team and promote team spirit in the school. She noted that, as they worked to build the school, they should also focus on their professional development.

Donation

The Director of UNESCO Category II Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA), University of Cape Coast, Dr. Michael Boakye Yiadom, and his wife, Mrs. Becky Yiadom, on the behalf Francis Yiadom  who is  an Advanced Clinical and Prescribing Pharmacist at the Hollies Surgery and Medical Centre in Benfleet, United Kingdom, donated a set of books to the school.

Present at the ceremony was the Vice Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Nicholas Omane Acheampong.

GAUA Strategic Plan Committee

GAUA Holds Strategic Plan Retreat

14 Nov, 2020 By louis Mensah

The Strategic Plan sub-committee of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has held a two-day retreat in Elmina to develop a strategic plan for the union.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the National President of GAUA, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, said the retreat was aimed at producing a strategic plan and framework that would provide the roadmap to align the union's functional activities to achieve their set goals.

"We come from a rich background as University administrators and managers and therefore, we need to move to a higher level," he added.

Mr. Antwi-Konadu noted that as one of the formidable unions in public universities, GAUA had always distinguished itself and contributed to the growth of public universities in the country. “We have significantly contributed our quota to the excellent feat public universities have chalked in the country. We, therefore, need this strategic plan to guide us and also empower our members to make themselves significant in their respective portfolios,” he added.

Participants were made up of national executives and representatives of past executives and local branches.
